Hellenistic Fusion too overpowered?

I've looked into the eureka system since launch and really want to give that mechanic more depth, but unfortunately the eureka system is not capable of it yet. At most you can do a global adjustment, similar to China, but you can't differentiate between Alex gains eureka normally and Alex gains eureka from conquest. Else I'd be doing more with great scientist eurekas vs spy eurekas, etc.

Maybe in the future.

There are ways to do it by bypassing the Eureka system and implementing in Lua to give a percent to the tech's research. But likely I'd just give him a global nerf to all Eurekas. I think that's a fair tradeoff for a very powerful ability.

I disagree. Firstly it depends on the neighbors you have, the geography of the map and how quickly you can expand. If you spawn in an isolated area the ability along with unique units are useless. If you spawn in an area with little production the neighboring civ might not have put down any districts or only a few. The ability really starts to pick up in the mid game when cities are well developed, true and you do end up in a conquering streak that will leave you broke and lacking amenities. In two of the game I had with Alex I had to stop for a while after massive conquering sprees because the economy simply could not keep up with it. Had it been multiplayer and had the AI civs attacked me when I was broke and stretched out the game would have ended rather differently.

Considering that the only strength of the civ is war and expansion it seems only fitting. Alex is not really good at any other victory type, at least not until you conquer half the map and can do anything.

I'm not a warmonger player, so when I inevitably try Macedon, I'm going to be doing catch-and-release conquest. Let someone declare war on me, take some cities with districts, then give them back in peace. Wait for the next war and repeat.

Played a few games with and against Alex in MP. His UU arent strong enough and come to late to rush people with, archer rush is still better if at all, otherwise your going to get bricked out and Alex doesn't have any abilitys if that happens. First impressions is that he is really weak in MP. Cyrus is where its at though, just like SP, you can randomly DOW people to have super movement for the whole game.

Alex's heavy cav UU absolutely needs the first GG in the game to go to him. No classical era GG - not a good UU. So an easy way to undercut Alex is to force the average era to the medieval and block him from getting a classical era GG. And ofc, since there a lack of Ancient Era GGs and 2? Classical era GGs (only one is usually seen), that's quick to do.

even the sword UU needs the GG to be viable. it does get the boost vs districts, and more support, but the GG will help it get places faster. Also, it needs a battering ram addition to be able to skip the archer spam.

So Alex probably doesn't need a nerf. Like with all things civ/balance, some civs seem quite strong until their weaknesses start revealing themselves.

Yeah thats what happened in the 3ish games I played against him, he tried to go UU rush in the beggining, but got brickhoused by archers, and then made completely irrelevant by xbows. Pretty much wasn't even playing after that because he was behind on citys and tech.

edit:Talking MP of course. I don't even know if SP is worth talking about. Tuna sandwich is good in SP.

Oh thats very true, I won't forget using mechanized infantry against japan and Indonesia who are in the medieval era. Also, I play the very best as Macedon
