Help! For some reason I can't build temples

I am playing a game on normal setting prince level. On an island with Gandhi , he founded 2 religions and I capture all his cities including holy cities. But for some reason I don't have an option to build temples. Can someone please tell me what I did wrong?

I even built a holy shrine using a GP.

OIC, thank you. All my previous games I went for oracle so it never occured to me that the tech is needed.

does those cities have the religion? cant build a religious temple without the religion there =]

No problem. Sometimes you take building things for granted that you overlook certain requirements. Once I had six banks but I didn't have corporation. I didn't know why I couldn't build Wall Street

I've been playing this game forever, and I just forgot that I needed Combustion to go with Industrialism if I wanted to actually build Panzers. D'oh! I blame the Aztec for my sloppy play. (He got introduced to some marines in the mean time.)
