My first Emperor game with Willem, I conquer all of Gilgamesh's cities. But, I have no economy! Ahhh! What do I do? I'm around -15 gpt @ 0% research!:cry::cry::cry:

Can you post a screen shot of your cities and tech picture?

Usually you want code of laws/currency ASAP when you're in trouble (and to work more commerce tiles, aka cottages). If you have at least alphabet, you can build research your way there, hopefully in time to avoid strike.

Pics of empire attached. As you can see I already have a decent amount of cottages up, some a little mature thanks to gilgamesh, and I'm working as many as I can. The only reason I even have a tech rate is due to scientists.

I'm stupid and Pacal is really smart!:cry::cry:

He hates me due to my stop and start warring! Damn.

Courthouses!! See whether you can swap research to CoL. Screw all infrastructure, just dump all hammers into research NOW. Get CoL, get started on courthouses, and whip them out boy!!

In the meantime, check whether Pacal wants any resources. Trade him for money per turn.

You get pass CoL and courthouses, Pacal's head is yours. Just be patient until you have SoD.

Well, building courthouses is the way to go.

Can you hang with Pacal militarily? If you can and get desperate you can always torch a few of his cities for some money.

Basically, this. Courthouses and currency are your priorities for now. If pacal gets too far ahead just expand peacefully and put your cities together. He doesn't build a lot of units and he can't expand in your direction, so you can just overwhelm him later. Trade for what you can. Resources for gold will help temporarily, but after that try to get things that raise your cap instead.

Teching CoL earlier might have been a good idea, but with currency nearly half researched and losing 15 gold, switching now is very bad. You still need to build the courthouses, and currency gives instant relief.

You did go math-currency and not alfabet-currency? Even if math is cheaper, building research will get you to currency faster, and is surely more important than an aquaduct?

The main reason the situations is this bad, is because all your conquests
are far away. you'll soon have to work coasts to pay the bills.

I looked some more at the save. I see you researched both math and
alfabet before currency. Why? with only one known opponent it is probably
better to skip alfabet, since you won't be able to trade techs, and working a coast tile is as good as working a grassland hill and building research with a financial leader. A few cities could do with a lighthouse before a library. With your slider at 0% a library isn't much use unless you want to run scientists and you can't do that everywhere.

Opening borders with Pacal immediately gives +9 gold. At the moment this will help you much more than him.

After building research instead of 2 aquaducts and a swordsman, disbanding 2 warriors and working 5 coast tiles instead of production tiles, you lose 2 gold with a 10% slider and currency will be done in 10 turns, after that you can build wealth wich will help more than building research and get CoL and start to build courthouses.

Ahhh! My saviors. In the heat of the moment to conquer Gilgamesh I became stupid and didn't think about all my options. Thank you!
