Version 2.1 is out now (21.04.2011).

Features (sroll down for more details)

  • 15 playable Civilizations
  • NO DLC-Civs needed (except free Mongolia) - In some cases the map is using vanilla Civs for representing others (like Spain is represented by recoloured America)
  • ample space for european playable Civs. So its possible - but not nessesary - to build up an emprie, before going to war
  • 24 City States
  • A few City States now own two pre set Cities - they now are some kind of "minor Civs". This leads to some more more realistic gameplay, I hope
  • pre set (and renamed) Capital for every Civ
  • preset ressources: I tried to put them in "real world locations" (some are not of cource - thats for game play reasons)
  • some (luxury) ressources are pretty rare, so they may become casus belli
  • ressources are placed in regions - for example there are no dyes in northern europe. so you need to trade or conquer for it
  • 10/11 Natural Wonders (not renamed, just representing European Natural Wonders)
  • Navigable sea narrows: Strait of Messina, Dardanelles, Strait of Gibraltar, Great Belt
  • Its just a pure map - so it should be compatible with most mods out there.
  • two map versions are included: one is basicly "clean" - no cities are set, just starting postions. The other one include pre set cities and city States.

Any feedback still will be welcome.

Install:
download first.

Extract the files into ...My Documents/My Games/Civilization 5/Maps.
Start the game -> go to "Mods" -> "Single Player" -> choose "Set up game" -> "Maps": find "Henry'sEurope99x72v2.1SC". Set "Scenario" on for true Starting Locations.

Henry'sEurope99x72v2.1SC is for playing. It includes pre setr Cities and pre set City States. You can't walk around before founding your first City here.

Henry'sEurope99x72v2.1
For scenario making I suggest using this "clean version" map: Henry'sEurope99x72v2.0 is has Starting positions and CSt defined, but not pre placed. So its more easy to use this for your Scenario with own cities and such.

Details

15 big Civilisations:

Playable Cis are not renamed, since the dont show up right, if renamed just in World Builder.

  • 1 Egpyt
  • 2 England
  • 3 France
  • 4 Germany
  • 5 Greece
  • 6 Ottoman Empire
  • 7 Spain (America)
  • 8 Persia (starting on Babylons location since this was the nearest SP to Persepolis and Persepolis is not on Map)
  • 9 Rome
  • 10 Russia or Moscowitan Rule
  • 11 Empire of Almohads (Arabians)
  • 12 Fatimid Empire (Shonghai)
  • 13 Mongols
  • 14 Polish-Lithuan Empire (Iroquoise) (anyway: Warshaw still is City State.)
  • 15 Kiewan Rus or Ukrain (Chinese)

24 City States:
All original European City States are included plus some not European - these are renamed on Map (just on Map, NOT renamed in game messages :(). I felt the region around the Alpes a bit crowed, so some CS's moved. Basicly this is for Florece (now named Chersones), Genoa (Algiers), Monaco (Barcelona). Then there are on map: Cape Town (Istanbul*), Hanoi (Danzig), Rio de Janero (Lisboa), Singapore (Amsterdam), Almaty (Kolchis).

6 of 24 City States own more then one City, they represent Civilizations, but are not playable. This counts for:
  • Istanbul + Burssa. (Byzantine Empire). I choosed "Istanbul" over Konstatinople, becouse Civ5 should check for Names and Ottoman Empire will not found "Istanbul" itsself now, I hope)
  • Copenhagen + Aarhus (Denmark)
  • Stockholm + Kalmar (Sweden)
  • Oslo + Bergen (Norway)
  • Danzig + Riga (Teutonic Order)
  • Lisboa + Porto (Portugale)

Natural Wonders
Natural Wonders are in - representing European Natual Wonders now. But they are NOT renamed, they will show up in original names. Anyway - which Natural Wonder does represent what landmark in Europe or Minor Asia?
  • Rock of Gibraltar -> well... Rock of Gibraltar
  • Gret Barrier Reef -> Wadden Sea in Dutch/German North Sea
  • Krakatoa -> Santorin
  • Mt Fuji -> Montblanc
  • Barringer Crater -> Terrasses of Pamukkale
  • Grand Mesa -> Sierra del Torcal
  • Old Faithful -> Worlds highest Cold Water Geysir in Andernach (Germany)
  • Cerro de Potosi -> Mt. Ararat
  • El Dorado -> Minoan City of Knossos Ruins
  • Fountain of Youth -> Death Sea

Have fun!

Thank you guys. :) Im doing the next version, so... any feedback about ressource placement or landscape would be nice. (I added some more aluminium for now, especially in the eastern part of the map and did some minor tweaks. But i do not want to flood it with ressources ;) )

Hi! I think this is thus far my favourite Europe map, keep up the good work!

Nice map.

How do you get starting locations to work? I created a less ambitious map but when I play it, the civs dont start where I placed them.

How do you get starting locations to work?
Hm, I found it pretty intuitive: Just placing SP in "Edit plot" and choose from list. But - less intuitive - I needed to take care of the team numbers in "Scenario Editor". Team numbers change sometimes, for example when adding/deleting Civs or move Players/CS up/down in list.

[*]Gret Barrier Reef -> Wadden Sea in Dutch/German North Sea

[*]Old Faithful -> Worlds highest Cold Water Geysir in Andernach (Germany)

Have fun!

 I will!

It's a good thing to be a little sparse with ressources on realistic maps (at least to my taste), favoring realism over balance for a change. This map will be a lot of fun with coming addons and mods that provide the "right" civs, like Spain and Norse.

Thank you all. There is a new map version nearly done.

What will be done?
I removed the renaming of the Civs. That means you will now play with "America", but not with America renamed to "Spain" in WB any longer. So under no circumstances it will be displayed as "Spain" anymore (exept you load a mod and put SPs yourself). This is, becouse there are some kind of display errors in Civ5.

Then there are more ressources placed, some more rivers added and I made some tweeks with terrain (features and base terrain).

Are there any special wishes to include?

First post updated. Version 1. 6 is out now. :)

Whats new? Well... Mongols are in now (v1.0 still was in Vanilla Civ5 without them). I added some Rivers, made some tweaks in Landscape and Ressources here and there and made some minor additions. Finaly all former renamed Civs from v1.0 are now using their original names until renaming in WB will affect Diplomacy Texts and such as well...

Enjoy!

This is a wonderful, fantastic map, should have been done by Firaxis itself, adds great value to the hole ciV experience, imho a MUSTHAVE!
:goodjob:

Thank you very much!

Thank you for these nice words, Kopiano. :) I'm glad, some people like this map - and im still hoping for some feedback to make it even better.

Henry, Nice Map, How do I turn the scenario to on so I can get accurate starting locations Also how do I activate the MOD in Civ 5. I have a mac version of the game, so I do know If it makes a difference, Dan

Welcome to the forums, dmack10. :)

I am sorry, I don't know, if playing on Mac makes a difference here. Anyway starting this is just the same like in every Map.

First extract the files into ... My Documents/My Games/Civilization 5/Maps.

Then Start the game -> go to "Mods" -> "Single Player" -> choose "Set up game" -> "Maps": find "Henry's Europe 99x72 v1.6" -> Set "Load Scenario" on for true Starting Locations (Look at attached Picture). Don't forgett to chose your Leader. ;)

Have fun!

Playing my first game on this map. Its refeshing to play a map not cluttered with to many resoruces.

Playing a game as Rome (New patch, epic speed, immortal difficulty) and having a blast. Just praying for no CTD/freezes´s later on.

Any plans on a map version with the new Spain instead of the current placeholder?

First: I'm sorry, there is a Bug on my map. Or even two. :( Victory conditions are turned off - thats my fault. It is becouse I was testing this map with using some medival techtree and I wanted it all turned off. Didn't turn it back on when working on this map again. :(

The other one is some kind of Bug, I dont know, how to solve: Mongols are set in some Team mode, but when looking on Map in World Builder's settings, then its not true. I will change the Team numbers, when I am back at home - hoping this will fix it.

Drogear, actually I don't have plans for adding Isabella, since I didn't plan to buy such DLC. But maye I will change my mind early next year.

Oh, when fixing the mistakes from abouve, I will add the 3 new Natural Wonders. It's a pitty we cant rename them just in Worldbuilder. At least I dont know how. Maybe its working with "Mod Data"?
