Let members of ANGA and anybody else post Hi-Res units here. You can post units you've put in other threads already as we'll try to make this the official Hi-Res Comilation.

To start off, let me attach a set of WWII units by DarthVeda.

Sorry there :p

I'll admit they're not bad, just not my taste.

Not sure if these fit the definition of Hi-res units... as a lot of original artwork went into this. It has definitely not been as easy as rescaling and fiddling just a little bit... But a lot is based on other image sources and models, and the work of others, from converting 'blobs' into something that makes sense, to ripping an african shield where needed ;)

Naval units :
1st line, medieval ship types : knarr, cog, another cog, hulk, galley
2nd line, late medieval/early modern ships : carrack, caravel, another caravel, great carrack/nau, war galleon
3rd line, modern ships : corvette, 2 nearly identical 3-masted frigates, troop transport, small whaleboat/gunship

African units :
1st line : zanzibari workers, pioneers, shooters, porters carrying supplies, ammunition and ivory, and slaves/pathfinders
2nd line : manyuema warriors, archers, chief, pygmies, cannibals, steppe warriors, and ruga-ruga (raiders)
3rd line : H.M.Stanley, european officer, Emin Pasha, native garrison, interpreter, egyptian officer, and missionary

Morten: your units are far too good to be classed as hi-res :D
What you should have done was find the biggest picture you could and reduce it to 10% of it's original size. Than add a liberal smattering of randomly coloured pixels to give your unit that certain hi-res appeal. For the full effect ensure that no 2 units are the same scale or attitude. If in doubt, make up your units file from at least 40 different sources of 10-year old civ1 graphics.

Anyway I thought by definition hi-res shouldn't contain hand-drawn graphics, as your African troops appear to be?

Sorry to be so rude - I think your graphics are excellent

:goodjob:

I also thought that Hi-res was just reduced originals. I too love your units Morten, but still prefer to work with Iso(Nemo) just because it fits my style.

Actually I wil take back my previous statement, except the part about loving your units, and admit that I don't think I even read your original post but simply looked at it.

yep, it does look like a purple tray of boogers

kobayashi, see what you have unleashed.

Rivalry and ungracious feelings between our community.
Where will this silliness end?

What happened?
Did you have a bad experience with a nemo unit as a kid?

WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THE HI-RES OR NEMO STYLE?

IT IS THE CREATIVE DRIVE THAT COUNTS!

I thought you knew this, obviously not.

What would you do if Nemo appeared to defend his own work?
You wouldn't be so triumphant then, I'lll wager.

This awful division you have created in our little community is the most crap thing I have ever seen.
I once had a lot of respect for you as a fine veteran creator, now you have devolved into some political demagouge.

Our CIV2 community is endangered enough, without this!
I fear you have much to answer for!

I hope you enjoy your cheap thrill of power, for that is all you have gained here...

You have lost far more.

CurtSibling..

I believe that 99% of posters here think as you do; that the hard work of unit creators, no matter the style, deserve the respect of the rest of the community that use them.

Please don't take this sooo seriously, I cannot believe it is anything other than a light hearted bit of fun.

My point exactly. :crazyeye:

I think you are taking this discussion way to serious, I do of course also reject the stupid rivalry over units, even though there is no rejection over units in my point of view. It's just some harmless fun. Maybe not that funny to some, but know this: I respect Captain Nemo 110%. He revolutionized civilization II with his genious work of civ2 graphics art. Some like his work, some prefer different kind of units. I like them equally, but prefer Hi-res for some reson. I use both nemo-units and Hi-res.

Yep, perhaps I did over-react a bit! :D

I seen it as a bit of a danger to the community as a whole.
I was thinking of the bigger picture, not about individuals.

But the graphics thing has blown over, and I humbly apologise to Mr kobayashi if I judged him harshly.

The look of graphics is irrelevant, as long as people are still making them!
Unity is needed in our CIV2 community!
