Hey, total newb the forum and not the most tech minded person here.

Recently I had a crash for Warlords saying that I didnt have enough virtual memory.

I checked in my system properties.

The total allocation of mb for virtual memory was set to "custom" and it was a maximum of 3072 mb.

Here is my question ...

Should I do one of the following ...

- Change the 3072 to another number (the total mb pool I can take from is 44721)

- Change the setting from "custom" to "system managed size"

If I am leaving anything out then just let me know, if I am making no sense then just hit me.

My system is a PIV 2.66G with 1G RAM and an 80G HD

Thanks in advance.

If anything, you might want to reduce the VM to something abit more sensible like 1GB or 1.5Gb. I'm puzzled as to why it said it ran out of VM as 3Gb is very generous to say the least. I don't have Warlords, but is it patched with all the latest updates? You might have a possible memory leak somewhere or something running in the background is eating all your RAM.

Try looking in Task Manager and that should give you a list of what is running and how much RAM it is using.

Also, try lowerin the in game graphics setting and see if that helps.

With regards to the virtual memory I would just leave the maximum as it is as it wont do any harm but make sure the initial is also set to the same value as maximum.

I thought that too but nothing was running the first time it happened, at least, nothing that I know of.

That's an idea too ...

Well, I did two things and neither worked ...

- I set the virtual mem to "system manage" ...

This seemed to work ok but then I completed a wonder and the video set off a crazy audio malfunction and then a crash.

- I set the virtual mem to "custom" with 3000mb pool.

Same result as above though I did get a little further before a crash.

movies, audio can also need memory. disable them to save mem.

That's my next plan of attack, it seems that the videos for the wonders are what triggers the crash.

Thanks for the replies so far.
