Hm... Some sort of (euro-paying) job offer.

It does come with a catch, though (let alone that it is not certain by now).

It is an offer to present (and this time with pay) the same program i have organised for 15 meetings now, in my own city. Ie that program about the general/synoptic view of pre-socratic philosophers and then platosocrates.

The catch is that it is to be given in a different city. By itself not that bad, cause it is not that far away and i can use the train (afaik it is more or less a 1 hour trip), and so in theory i won't have to stay for any night there anyway.

It is a very welcome development, at any rate, for my little philosophy seminar travelling monster-spectacle show :)

Any of you have had experience with travelling for similar distances to work? All in all it would take the better part of 3 hours to travel, get to the education facility in the other town, and then back..

Trains can be alright if you pick the right reading. Congrats for the job.

Thanks, although it is not final yet, but i got informed of the interest in some of the local seminars (including my own) for a cultural program they have there :)

Congrats :).

Not sure about the train, but once I had to travel one week 4 hours by car (2 back + forth) each day, and I can tell you that this isn't fun.
Besides the time it's taking up, it's also damn exhausting.
Depending on how much time that stuff will consume, and if you have to stay over some consecutive days, then I'd really say that finding a cheap hostel would probably be the better solution.

Only an hour? The average bus ride around town takes anywhere from half an hour to 45-50 minutes if transferring to another route. I don't see the problem, unless you're doing this at night and are worried about getting stranded.

Echoing what people said. An hour doesn't sound too much, many (including me) do that or more each day - but I guess it may seem more since everything is closer in eastern Europe in general.

Congratulations on the job

If the train has internet, you can do your CFC posting during your commute. Go for it.

A rule of thumb - if you don't get paid for the time you spend getting to the workplace, quit that thing.

I've never heard of a company that does anything like this.

Is this sort of thing common in Europe? Or are you just kidding? I really can't tell.

They do pay for the train fee, yes (along with the actual salary). But currently the specific proposal is not set, so i cannot decide something anyway.
It is definitely good that the program attracts positive attention..

So long as it's not rush hour or a really crappy train an hour is quite pleasant. An hour and a half with Wi-Fi. Coffee and read/ surf on the way in and a beer and read/ surf on the way home. The potential to meet pretty girl or someone interesting to add a little spice. Not that it happens often, but the potential is nice.

Half-kidding, half-serious.

If i couldn't rent a flat closer than a mile from my job, i would quit the job.

I'm a teacher currently (horray, i stopped geisha stuff) and all my private students are in the same suburb as me.

If/when i get a stable 9 to 5 job, i still would ask around to be sure 95+% that i can rent a flat next to the office. I live in a city with HUGE traffic jams, that's why.
