HNDY10 - AWDG Regular Pangaea No Pillaging

Ivory is connected. Istanbul is now a somewhat easier 4-turn-settler-factory from 4.5 to 6.5 without swapping. We found a barb camp directly east to the hut, poped barbs from the hut, but killed all but one barb taking only minor damage.

Iznik has been founded and another settler is in place like dotmapped py northern pike.

This landmass is great. Seems not too hard to defend. :)

I suggest we poke around in the south. I fear we are on an island from looking at the revealed map plus no AI contact yet. If this is an island we can consider starting over since it kind of defeats the whole pangaea concept. Or play it out - I'm okay with either choice.

I'm out T,W,T this week but back Friday. Skip me if I come up before then.

Cross-post with Handy, or rather cross-play.

1750 (0): I don't see how we could hold cities any farther south than our present front line with our minimal army, so I think I'll start settling the north.

1725 (1): We found Uskudar.

Bursa spearman --> archer, Istanbul settler --> settler.

1700 (2): The last barb warrior around Iznik attacks and dies.

1675 (3): Science down to 50%, the Wheel still due in one turn.

Wheel --> Iron Working, due in 19 turns at 70% science.

1650 (4): We have two sources of horses, so to rhyme. :D

The Mayans complete the Oracle.

1625 (5): Bursa archer --> spearman, Istanbul settler --> settler.

1600 (6): We found Izmit northwest of Istanbul.

1575 (7): Edrine barracks --> spearman.

1550 (8): Iznik worker --> barracks.

1525 (9): Bursa spearman --> spearman, Istanbul settler --> settler.

1500 (10): Not much.

If this weren't a pangaea, I'd be certain we're alone on an island, though I've been cautious with our exploring spearman and haven't settled the point definitively.

Our northern settler can found a city on the tile it now occupies.

We have an archer approaching to attack the barb camp in the north.

Istanbul can return a mined cow tile to Bursa after this interturn.

Assuming we are alone on an island, I don't have a strong opinion as to whether we should keep playing. I'd like to hear what those of you with more AW experience think.

Nicely done NP. :D

If there are no horses to the north, we should go ahead & grab the ones in the south. That 3 tile narrow choke type area in the south looks attractive except for the fact there is so much Jungle to give the AI defensive bonus.

If we are on an island, and the AI are all on a big landmass this will be a a very tough nut to crack with no pillaging allowed. We could win a map like that if we pillage, but if we don't it will be very difficult on DG. It's 1500BC and no contact, it's either an island or a HUGE jungle

Maybe some lurker can open it and verify for us. I don't think we should purposely try to meet the AI.

It is indeed an island... safe passage by galley though if waiting for mapmaking isn't too disastrous.

Would be nice to see it played out anyway though! :goodjob:

We could try it and see how it goes. I think we want to get to the mainland and establish an outpost ASAP though. I would give Map Making a high priorty. If we can't establish a bridgehead, we will be hard pressed to do so later.

We may want to time it right though. We should have the troops and boats before we explore; else we will have a lot of landings to deal with which would make a landing on their continent hard.

I would say put every town other than the capitol (capitol makes settlers until our lands fill) on producing military and then boats (perhaps making a settler if it reaches maximum size). We will need a large presence to hold a spot on the mainland. Infra can come later.

We may want to go for the GLib if we are alone too, so that would be one other town not on Mil. We could start building now.

If we are totally slaughtered we can then decide if the game is pointless or not.

Thanks for looking, SW99.

We have horses next to Istanbul, so the southern horses don't matter in that sense--though we'll be settling in that area soon anyway, for want of alternatives.

I say lets go for it. This will be a completely new challenege.

So much for Pangaea, It is now AW Australia... or maybe New Zealand...or Hawaii...Club Med...

Let's hope we have iron.

Greebley's strategy sounds good to me.

See if you can stay alive until I get back on Friday.

If anyone wants to drop you guys can find a replacement while I am gone. I hope everyone stays.

Greebley, as GOMOAW charter member you are in charge of deciding if we still try to do this with no pillaging. Take a vote, make a solo decision. Whatever. :king:

preturn: no change.

1475BC: Found Aydin. I put Izmit on rax instead of worker. Bursa might be the GL city.

1450BC: Bursa grows to size 5 and I have to move spear from Uskudar to it for MP purpose.

1425BC: our spear reveals a big barb camp.

1400BC: it's killed. :( We clear camp in the NW corner.

1325BC: Sumeria completes Colossus.

1275BC: We do have iron, it's on the far NW corner where our archer is standing. :)

What to research next? Alphabet is the obvious choice, or CB as we need temple on Bursa at size 6, if it's going to be our GL city. We can research CB in 4 turns and we could start temple prebuild in Bursa now. Or we can start the prebuild NOW and keep lux on 30, as none of our towns other than capital could grow beyond size 6 anyways.

I shut off research this turn so next player can decide.

IBT Iro completes Pyramids.

1250BC: We found Konya on the iron.

Be aware of the barb camp in the south fog. Lots of barbs. We need some 3-4 spearmen and swords/archers to clear them

I start two granaries, but I think we can merge workers or settlers from capital to other towns instead.

Good round. :goodjob:

Of the various Great Library options Microbe mentions, I think we should switch to the palace pre-build in Bursa right now, while researching Alphabet and Writing as our next two techs. After that we can decide whether we can afford a diversion to Map Making before researching Literature.
