HOF Challenge Series XI Discussion Thread

Dear GOD!! Please no time games!!! Score games are similar without the mindless waste of time!!!

...but I have to respect Lymond's requests since he completed all game in the last Challenger. (There were just too many games for which I hated the settings.)

ha...I hate Time, but I need to do a couple. OCC time should be pretty quick though. We can do quick speed too. ( I don't think I've ever actually done a Time VC ever)

You should've tried the the Future Diplo and the OCC Culture, Shulec. Quick and Easy and kinda fun.

OCC time sounds like something I would try. I’m just not excited about including such a game in the challenge(r) series. It would be a fine G-minor though.

Yeah, those weren’t nearly as bad as one would assume after reading the first pages in the game threads. I still don’t understand the sudden dislike for OCC culture. I don’t recall anyone complaining about G-min 135 or G-maj 103. BTW, who was your PA partner, lymond? Alexkong of Greece? Probably an even better roll than Sullyzuma.

Future diplo might have been more interesting on quick rather than epic speed, but that’s the risk when you try out new settings. There’s always a chance that the game gets too easy or too difficult (or too much of a “luck box”), and those who want the variety of unusual settings should be aware of that and deal with it.

Anyway, I wouldn’t like to be in the hof staff’s shoes these days. It’s so hard to make everyone happy when preferences differ so much!

Wangsander it was. Favorite Civic=Caste. I'm not sure he ever truly went culture mode, but at least he built the late culture wonders. He also wiped out Boudica. I got real lucky on GA pops late game. Settled about 6 or 7 in Corinth and 1 in Athens.

I had to GAs early and I tested him by gifting him 1 first. He sent it to Corinth and bombed it. But that was just the old border city bomb. But I knew then that Corinth would be city 2 and I groomed it from the point forward. Athens had some ridiculous early culture and I'm not sure why.

So I gift him the second GA and I swear it just disappeared. I saw it moving away, so I knew it was a mistake but then it just disappeared and it never bombed a city or settled in one. Bizarre.

I also completely forgot about Free Speech. I eventually remembered very very late. UN didn't work as usual due to defiance, but switching into it myself eventually he switched into it as well. I'm not sure the mechanic behind that in a PA. It does not always work that they adopt your civics.

Right. Sounds better. :D

Sullyzuma (or Suleizuma) went culture mode (100% slider) as soon as our PA was formed (~1400 ad, a bit late I suppose). He also built nearly all the modern culture wonders and cathedrals (and no stupid espionage buildings like other leaders would do). He was almost a bit too eager to build those. I couldn’t even build Eiffel Tower, because he had already started it in one of his minor cities. I could have gotten a much better date, if Genghis had not declared on us. My friend did a great job fending him off with his military flavor, but, of cause, got out of culture mode and Free Speech that he had miraculously adopted earlier. Getting him back to culture mode after peace was easy enough, but I needed a late UN vote to get him into Free Speech again.

So I gift him the second GA and I swear it just disappeared. I saw it moving away, so I knew it was a mistake but then it just disappeared and it never bombed a city or settled in one. Bizarre.

Bulbed something?

Bulbed something?

hmmm..did not even think of that. I did not think AIs used GAs for bulbs but it seems to be the only explanation

Well, that and you must be very bored to venture into HoF. That is what I meant...

What update? BUFFY? :please: (I've been pushing for that for 3 years)

No, he's saying after the HoF update on the 25th, he'll work on the challenge series...

but, yes! there is a new BUFFY coming. I've asked if they're ready to start a thread on it, to see if there's anything we can all do to help make it the best it can be. Watch for news.

I don't think it needs much really. Just update to the latest BUG/BULL and do some performance tweaking. I wouldn't mind of the just pulled PLE out altogether.

(Of course, I guess with all the exploit discussion of late, the Staff may want to look at improving the "HOF" monitoring aspects of the mod. I don't know. That'd probably push and update out another 3 years..ha)

Archipelago, Tiny Islands

The Challenge XI are open. The HoF Challenger Page will display the games soon.

I chose many games based on Pollina's suggestions. Sorry to those whose suggestions I didn't accommodate (LTC, Lymond).

Maybe we will do Deity Challenge that runs concurrent since this challenge tops out at Emperor.
