It is the same pattern. First few saves are OK (3 to 5), then size increase and same situation as described above. Thanks.
Okay, Thanks. Could zip up the last good save and the first bad one and e-mail them to hof@civfanatics.net? It might help us figure out what's happening. :goodjob:

I'm setting up a new computer (G-VII Minor pointedly showed I needed an upgrade) and after installing/uninstalling/re-installing MapFinder and .NET Framework 2.0 I continue to get CTD upon running MapFinder with the Windows message "Civ4Map Finder has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

Any suggestions?

I don't know what it is missing.

All I can suggest is using the 1.0 version with the latest data files.

The only other thing I know works is to download and install the VB.NET 2005 Express Edition.

To track it down, try uninstalling VB.NET to confirm it breaks.

Then try deleting VB.NET files until it breaks.
Oh. I have confirmed it on an old PC. It didn't work until I installed the VB.NET. You are assuming a file dependency and that uninstalling would necessarily remove the file. I have run "Depends.exe" against it. When you look at the list of shared DLLs it displays it is mind boggling. None of those files appear to be files you could associate with VB.NET vs .NET 2.0 Framework or even Windows XP.

Personally, I think it is a licensing issue with the MSFlexGrid control. Not that I have any idea how that works. I have seen references to a developer's licenses for some controls but nothing about this specific control.

I installed the new HOF about a week ago or so, and the map finder doesn't work.

I think few people have already mentioned it here.

Has there been a solution found, or what can be done?

From my terrible understanding of computers, it seems that the directories for the map finder can't be found...

Also, I noticed that HOF games have to have the latest mod by a certain date, and I only noticed this by an accident.
How many mods will there be?

Regards
Martin

We try to update the mod as little as possible, to spare everyone the inconvenience, but when we have to fix something, we gotta do what we gotta do.

I *think* we'd originally listed August 25th as the cutoff for .004, but since I never gave the formal month-advance warning with an update, it'll be a bit longer.

Did you download Civ4 Map Finder V1.1? Running once it will set your directories.

I tried the 1.1 version, but need some 60 MB update for the pack mentioned as "the solution".... With a dial up, that is out of the question.

Why not release a map finder that works along the lines of the 004 version? What had to change to require this?

I trust no such measures will be necessary with the HOF mod, as I'm sure more will be coming.

I liked the mapfinder feature, although I think it's a mild form of cheating as you can literally leave it on overnight, then try out all the different starts - picking the best, something that manually would take too much time and hence not be done.

So I can live without it, but if you mess up the HOF mod download and it's implementation structure, then that will be a shame.

Cheers

The 1.0 version still works. You just need the updated data files.

The "solution" as you say, isn't. A solution, that is. ;) Please try something for me if you can. Download and install this redistributable from M$. It is 22 MB but it might just be what we've been looking for to get v1.1 working for everyone.

As for the change in V1.1, there is a dependency in v1.0 for MS Office, not everyone has that. As I have discovered, there is no perfect solution that doesn't required alot more time and effort than I have available right now.

I'd suggest putting up a clarifying message in the MapFinder page - indicate that people without VB.NET should use the updated 1.0 version, and people with it should use 1.1.

I downloaded the 22 MG pack, now upon launching the mapfinder I get the same error as 'HighDesert' reported. "Mapfinder has encounterd a problem and needs to shut down..." etc.

I tried to uninstall the mapfinder, then downloaded again, with the same results.

The paths now do appear in the actual Civ game, and the mapfinder 'works' in 0.06 Civ mod.
Of course there is no way to open it up to set the rules tho.

Hope this puts you closer to the solution.

Can you give step by step instructions as what to do with the 'updated data files' for 1.0? When the folder opens, then what??

Cheers

Both ways worked fine for me.

Thanks for trying. :goodjob: I had my hopes.

As for the zip, just place them in the V1.0 Map Finder folder. Replacing the ones there. You can use V1.0 to change your rules, although you might want to manual change the Map Finder paths to point back to that version. See your in-game options HOF3 tab.

The problem is that some people have whatever is missing without having to install VB.NET. So I am continuing to be at a loss as to what is missing.

Of the poeple having problems, how many have MS Office or at least Excel?

I probably did something wrong when 'placing' the zip, as it doesn't work for me either.

The mapfinder paths disappear when manually typed in also.

I've had enough of it, time to resign....

Suggestion would be to make the pathfinder part of the next HOF mod, then giving people the option to use it if so desired in the menu.

Cheers

I am sorry you are having problems. If the in game option screen isn't working for you, you can manually edit the HOF-1.61.006.ini. The paths are at the bottom of the file.

I will have to check the options. I have not heard any report of issues with editing the paths before.

the "Score" victory type listed at the HoF

http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/index.php

is not a standard Civ4 victory condition

is this the highest score among the various victories achieved?

it is also not clear to me why some of the entries in the table have a green and gold background

please explain
