HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

It looks like you downloaded version 1.5. Sorry, it's not quite ready for primetime, but I have been sick and haven't felt like messing with it.

Open the "Civ4MapFinder.ini" in the "Civ4_Map_Finder" folder and change "GridVersion" to "Text" (no quotes).

Edit: Okay, I have removed the link so no one else gets it until it is ready.

Aww, dude, hope you feel better soon. :(

Okay, will do that. Thanks! :)

Thanks, it's nothing that time and antibiotics won't set right. ;)
Luckily, your HOF Staff contract ensures you get paid just as much for Sick Days as normal shifts of work. Your boss is such a generous employer.

I didn't read thru the longest thread ever, but I assume since its been a year or more that there is no way to keep the custom game settings (namely civ choices) the same inbetween game runs?
Maybe I just gotta try that map finder thingie...

Anyway, not so much a suggestion but I've noticed quite a few spelling and formatting errors in the special domestic advisor aspect of the HOF mod. Does HOF use a modified version or the stock version? Not that the latter means much to me as I have no idea who the original author is, but if HOF staff keep a branch then perhaps this isn't completely misplaced here. Government was a particular strangely misspelled word.

Having problems with the Map Finder, I did apparently get 1.5, which I have since uninstalled and got the 1.4 version. The icons don't work but thats acedemic as I can't seem to figure out the rules to even get it to save a map.
I set up one rule its is Goody Hut and 1 to 999. Thats all. It doesn't do what I expect which is to save any map generated that shows at least one goody hut. Docs were a bit light on how this is supposed to work so I am just guessing here.
It is loading my rule file and regenerates and all that so its doing everything but that last critical step. How to fix?

Also...
Whats up with this odd but related double misspelling:
In the INI:
MapFinderUdpdateScreenDelay = 3
On the Options screen:
Delay for Upate:

I'm assuming its some sort of update but I honestly don't know. ?]

The version of the original mods should be noted in the credits. Any changes to the original versions after that were not included. They are modified to work with our ini file options and to eliminate any spoilers. The domestic adivsor has a few changes to the screen format. Beyond that the only chages are those required to merge them into new patches. I couldn't tell the exact ownership of the various spelling errors without looking. :crazyeye: If you care to provide a list, we'll try to correct them.

Did you make sure the the ini file/HOF Options are pointing to your new rules file? Also, you will need to exit out of Civ4 for the change to take effect. (The logic's there to load it everytime you hit ALT-M but it has never worked. :( )

The "d" must have migrated somehow from one place to another. :mischief: Actaully, it is just a talent I have for typos.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to fix that in the SDK. There is another way to save your settings though. Once you've got it all setup how you like save a 4000BC file somewhere. Then just load that and regen each time you want a new map with the same settings. The HOF mod doesn't create the same map each time when you regen from a saved map, just a little feature to make sure player's don't 'accidentally' play the same map repeatedly this way :mischief:.

@ Denniz
have you solved the problems with MF 1.5 (the one i tested)?

i didn't see news about... let me know, please

I haven't messed with it, yet. What you have should be stable as long as it is using the text version of the grid. Are you having problems?

This is likely what was causing the problem, as I probably was just alt-tabbing out and messing with rules. I did get it to work.
So, once it has the correct named rule set can that be modified during a instance and still work? That is, can I modify the rules and keep Civ running?

Also any idea why the icons aren't working for me? I updated to .NET v3 that was linked, should have I stayed with v2?

Also a suggestion or question at least, are the map numbers available anywhere in the Finder? The score related ones that you see when hovering over your score?

Your best bet is to always exit Civ4 whenever you want to change your rule file. It's a long story. There is a special Python function that I used to regain control after a map regeneration. It somehow isolate things in the module so that the file i/o only works the first time. I have tried a number times to get around it but all I ever succeed in doing is breaking the loop. :crazyeye: Frankly, I am tried of trying to figure it out. :( It works good enough as it is. ;)

The grid control I used to display the icon version is an old VB6/Office control. I am not sure if it is a dependency or licensing issue. I think it works if you have Excel install otherwise not. The controls that come with VB Express 2005 just can't mix picture/icon column headers and text/numerical row data like the old control can.

Also a suggestion or question at least, are the map numbers available anywhere in the Finder? The score related ones that you see when hovering over your score?
Nope. It has never come up before either. I suppose it is doable but I guess I don't see the value.

I do have Excel, its an old version tho, 2000. Also when I load up the app, if I click on one of the headers the app crashes.

Its a distant memory from Civ3 when milking was much more prevalent, it was in Moonsinger's app of similar purposes and used to find a good map for milking. One with lots of land and food. I guess this would only be really useful for a Time victory where it would directly affect maximum score.

No, it works fine, but i'd like to see the improved version.
I got some problems with my system, then i think i'll reinstall (not a problem for me).
But please, don't use net framework 3, it's new, and no other apps require it.

If i can make a suggestion, build your programs with in mind users with old PCs (mine is P4 2.4, i Gb ram, 256 Mb ATI Radeon, win XP).
it's good, but at the present is a generation old.

I'll take a look at it. I think I remember that you are using version 1.5 and have the text version of the grid. Correct?

I guess you are talking about number of tiles. I'll look at adding that to the other information at some point.

No, it works fine, but i'd like to see the improved version.

Good suggestion. I suppose I could try uninstalling .NET 3.0 before I release 1.5 again. Hopefully, Civ4_Map_Finder.exe isn't taxing anyone's system. There is not a lot there that should be taxing. I imagine the only thing that could make a difference is number of maps it is trying to list. I would recommend cleaning up unwanted savegame files, if anyone has problems there. Or using more directories to organize things a little.

Hi. I have a suggestion.

Sometimes the event log would tell me that Gandhi has 8gpt to trade. I press F4 and I find that he has 0gpt to trade. That’s because the messages refer to the previous turn situation, not the actual turn situation. In fact, I had looked F4 screen the previous turn and Gandhi had 8gpt available.

Would it be feasible to change the current behavior?

The same problem happens with techs, "someone has new techs to trade" comes out 1 turn late, they had new techs available the previous turn, not this turn. Would it be possible to change that?

The thing is, as it works now, I am forced to open F4 screen every single turn. The good thing about the HOF MOD is saving time in monotonous tasks like this one. Thank you.

See posts #747 and #749 for a demonstration of the tech trading info being 1 turn late, and Denniz's response. I suspected the same problem existed for gold trading too, but I hadn't tested it yet. Thanks for the corroborating info, so that I don't think I'm just a crazy conspiracy theorist :).

It is on my to-do list for the next release.

It was probably just a weather balloon. :mischief:

Nope, I downgraded after reading the thread about that not being ready. I recall seeing the icons in 1.5 tho, but I did get the same stdole error message another poster mentioned upon startup.

Its 1.4 with .NET v3. I should note that I have only used it without any maps, that is, I just start it to build rules as my success with the rules is not quite there yet. Anyway, the crashes happen with empty lists. I haven't had to chance to try it with actual data there. (So it could just be something as simple as a sort attempt on an empty list...)

Thank you, jray. Thank you, Denniz. Sorry to have brought up an old subject.
