HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

I suggest checking out the HoF FAQ, under the Autolog entry.

Edit: Let us know if that didn't answer your question.

I guess the answer is the "Silent/Default" settings. :confused:

From the FAQ:
Silent/Default- These options inform the mod how you wish it to start up. You can have this mod ask you at start up what to name your log file, always log to the same file, or log to a file based off of the player/leader name.

I think I want: "this mod ask you at start up what to name your log file". I have tried all combinations from silent/default settings without success.

Also, just discovered I can't open the Civilopedia from the main menu, either.

F12 will do that trick

When I was playing with the mod V1.61.010, there was a window before I loaded/started a game, asking me the name of the log file name. Now, I can't do the same with the last mod V1.61.011. I know I can go to advanced/options and change the name, but I usually forget to. :( I have compared the ini files, but I cannot figured out what to change.
I messed up when I copied the new autolog code into the V1.61.011. It won't prompt. You choices are Playername.txt (Silent checked) or whatever the default log file name is (normally "Autolog.txt). Sorry, I will be fixed next release. Warlords work okay, I think.

Nevermind--I just had to re-install the Mod to fix my problem, but I'm giving up on Map Finder. I hope saving a game in 4000BC after discovering BW and starting again won't disqualify it for playing less the 1/2 hour!
This is a scary sentence. I am not sure exact how to interpret it but we aren't worrying too, too much about session length as long as it doesn't get out of hand. The "starting again" part is the scary part as it sounds like reloading. Since we all know not to do that, I assume that is not what you meant. :mischief:

I tried to get Map Finder to work and after pressing ALT-M, it said it was active, but it just didn't do anything.
Make sure that the paths and rule file are set in the HOF-2.08.003.ini file are set. The best way to set them is to open Civ4_Map_Finder.exe and switch to Warlords via the menu. You should get a pop message wanting to set the paths for you. The go into rule builder and load and save the rule file you want to use. After that your ALT-M should work properly. (You can also type in the paths, etc. using the Game Options on the HOF3 tab.)
Anyway, I'm not sure what I did next, but now, whenever I load a game or start a new game, there is no interface! I tried making moves, (hoping it would activate the interface) and I discovered bronze working in 4000 BC from a hut. I would like to continue, but no interface. (it looks like I could play without the interface, if I knew all the commands). Alt-I won't bring it back, either. I'm using Warlords 2.08.004. Also, just discovered I can't open the Civilopedia from the main menu, either.
I am not sure that the HOF Mod would be responsible for this. Did you try starting it without the mod? It could be that the mod is getting an error when it loads the interface. You could try turning on logging to see what's going on. Change the following in My Documents\My Games\Warlords\CivilizationIV.ini:
Code:
; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

; Overwrite old network and message logs
OverwriteLogs = 1

; Enable message logging
MessageLog = 1
The log files go to My Documents\My Games\Warlords\Logs. Don't forget to turn it off again later as it can slow things down.

You haven't modified anything in the assets path under Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meir's Civilization4 or Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meir's Civilization4\Warlords have you? You might need to uninstall, delete those directories and reinstall if you have.
As an aside, when I first open Mapfinder, itself, and click on one of the column headings, it will crash to desktop, additionally when I try to edit one of the rules, for example, highlight a rule just to delete it, and nothing happens. [edit] when I press 'del rule'.
What version of the Civ4_MapFinder are you using. I am aware of a bug with the column head sorting on the main screen in V1.5 but I haven't heard about the others.

i can't figure out mapfinder at all, i'm terrible at setting the rules it seems, so i do it manually. but i do know that here you mean HOF-2.08.004.ini. well, i'm pretty sure i know ;). some people still aren't aware of the new version so i'm being nitpicky.

You are correct. I meant HOF-2.08.004.ini. ;)

Mapfinder is easy. You create a rule with only 1 entry ... it says "keep this game if there are more than zero stone". Then run it. You keep every save you generate. Next morning, you sort by what you like (stone, marble, food, gold, gems) and play the save you want.

After MF upgrade from v1.4 to v1.5, I'v lost very comfortable opportunity to change MF saves order in the MF viewer screen by clicking on a header icons of resource culumns. Is it unknown MF v1.5 bug or it's my own bug?))

It's a known bug. I would suggest going back to v1.4 or change to the text grid version. (go to your Civ4MapFinder.ini file and change to: GridVersion=Text)

Thanks, for the tip to check the Map Finder config file. After changing my settings there, everything works fine, now.

Denniz, any chance you've figured out why it is that sometimes loading the HOF mod kicks me back from window mode to full-screen mode?

I didn't know it was doing that. Did you tell me before and I forgot? :confused:

That is a CivilizationIV.ini setting. I wouldn't think that a Mod would affect that. I'll pass the question on to the SDK literate to see if they have a clue.

How do you load the mod? Do you load a save that then casues it to be loaded?

Same here, sometimes.

The .ini settings don't seem to work perfectly on my PC. Especially when I'm switching between vanilla for pbem's and the mod for HoF/GotM.
Somehow it seems as if the whole .ini settings reset themselves to default every now and then.

lol yeah, I told you back when you had me testing the chopping fix, back when the GOTM was just starting to use the HOF mod. You said you'd put it on the backburner since it wasn't a major issue and didn't happen every time....I guess the backburner lost its fuel supply? :p

It is a CivIV.ini setting, but sometimes when I load the mod it resets it to Full-screen...I then have to switch it back, close out the game and restart it.

It does this at random intervals when I load the mod manually from the main menu, when I load it by loading a save game, and when I start up Civilization by double-clicking a save.

i'd go nuts if i couldn't do windowed mode and not have to minimize civ when i tab out! for me, the game gets weird in that the window resizes, so i have to click on the little box up in the right hand corner to make it cover the whole window (but i have my task bar set to always show up). but that happens whether i'm using the mod or not, and it's every single time, and not very annoying i'm just used to it by now. i have the .ini set to fullscreen = 0 and it's been fine. there is an option to set it to "ask" instead of 0/1, have you tried that Thrallia?

I haven't messed with the .ini file, I just assumed that if I change the setting in the game, it changes the .ini file. That seems to be true since it generally does load in windowed mode...but every once in awhile it decides to do its own thing and load up in full-screen.

I just brought it up again because it happened 3 times over the weekend, which is more than usual.

be brave, show the .ini file who's boss ;)
