If it always crashes after a certain amount of continuous play you might want to check your ventilation. If when autosaving, then you might want to play without autosave.

i didn't realize that was even an option!!! the disallowed page on the rules says "The CivilizationIV.ini file setting: "AutoSaveInterval" must be set to 1." i thought it meant always in every case. maybe tho, it applies directly to the case discussed on that page, trying to salvage a game that crashed? if it applied always and forever to everything, it would probably be somewhere else and not hidden away there now that i think about it. so you can choose to not autosave every turn, with the risk that if you do crash, you can't try to recover it?

if that's true then my computer will work well enough with the mod. it already does me no good to try to autosave and recover, since the autosaves are what cause the crashes. if i turn them off i should be fine, no crashes at all. worst case, i get a few crashes and it'll seem like paradise compared to how it was. i just thought i wasn't allowed to turn them off was all. sometimes i really really hope i was wrong :) was i wrong?

well considering I now have 5 accepted saves and have my autosave set to 4 turns, I'd say yes...if I had a crash, I just wouldn't be allowed to submit that game...but I'm one of the people who hasn't ever had any issues with crashing, so I've never bothered with it(that applies to my GOTM games as well, they prefer 1 turn autosaves as well for recovering after a crash)

That's not a rule for all players, just a guideline for crashers (and normally a really really good idea). Yeah, you can turn down the autosaves, and even disable them altogether if you like. Just keep in mind that if you still crash, and your last save is more than one turn ago, your submission is screwed because when I grant crash exceptions, it's never for more than one turn.;)

that clarification works for me, thanks :) i was already getting excluded games due to crashes. in my case they're always caused by autosaves, but there were just too many crashes. so if i go autosave-less, i'll end up with excluded games that crash (not good, but not any worse than where i'm at now, and i don't think it'll happen) or games that don't crash and are accepted (which is great). so yay! well i suppose i could lose games and those wouldn't get accepted either, but we'll just ignore that possiblity for now *giggle*

I am having troubles loading the HOF mod for WOTM8. I get a runtime error when loading the mod. I am running Warlords and I have installed the HOF exe file. Can anyone advise?

Have you patched Warlords to 2.08? (and vanilla to 1.61?) The only time I have heard of run-time errors is when the patch versions don't match the one the Mod is expecting.

Now you know why the Staff get the big money :)

When are the new server expected to be ready?
I refer to the message when submitting a game.
Your new server seems to be online but not working yet.

The new server is up. We just don't have the Civ4 dropdown menu setup with the correct link. When you attempt to login to the old server it should state:
This section of the site is currently disable while we move to the new server.

Note the link on that page will take you to the new server. I hope you like the new look! :D

Edit: That reminds me, I have to change my sig.

Is it possible to get civ4lerts in a separate window? Or is there a log of it somewhere that I can keep open and it will update IBT?
It's over all too quickly for me. I'm getting :old:

They go into the regular game log (like GP and Wonder annoucements), so you can see them there. They are not saved perminately but they are there during that play session.

To view the log, press Ctrl + Tab

Thanks, guys :goodjob:
And wow, you're fast

When I was playing with the mod V1.61.010, there was a window before I loaded/started a game, asking me the name of the log file name. Now, I can't do the same with the last mod V1.61.011. I know I can go to advanced/options and change the name, but I usually forget to. :( I have compared the ini files, but I cannot figured out what to change.

I suggest checking out the HoF FAQ, under the Autolog entry.

Edit: Let us know if that didn't answer your question.

Nevermind--I just had to re-install the Mod to fix my problem, but I'm giving up on Map Finder. I hope saving a game in 4000BC after discovering BW and starting again won't disqualify it for playing less the 1/2 hour!

I tried to get Map Finder to work and after pressing ALT-M, it said it was active, but it just didn't do anything. Anyway, I'm not sure what I did next, but now, whenever I load a game or start a new game, there is no interface! I tried making moves, (hoping it would activate the interface) and I discovered bronze working in 4000 BC from a hut. I would like to continue, but no interface. (it looks like I could play without the interface, if I knew all the commands). Alt-I won't bring it back, either. I'm using Warlords 2.08.004. Also, just discovered I can't open the Civilopedia from the main menu, either. As an aside, when I first open Mapfinder, itself, and click on one of the column headings, it will crash to desktop, additionally when I try to edit one of the rules, for example, highlight a rule just to delete it, and nothing happens. [edit] when I press 'del rule'.
