HOF Questions and Answers Thread

Yes, it does count for all categories.
Again yes. The highest two scores for every category are counted, so if you play three games as England, your highest two are counted.

Thank You Very Much Indeed

Ad-Hoc Query:

Limiting the ranges to only some of the criteria helps some. Wouldn't you be able to get the info by having a couple instances of the query open?

Key ranges would be most useful for Difficulty:

I'd say that specifying a range of Difficulty would be appealing to most HOF players. Especially the open ended ranges Cheiftan-Deity through Immortal-Deity. (Settler-Deity is already provided by the "any" key.) For example having the best Monarch date doesn't mean as much when a similar game at a higher difficulty has a better date (Monarch-Deity range).

These would be much more complex than ranges as it would include creating table(s) to hold the subsets. But probably eaier to understand if they were included in the existing drop downs. I guess the leader traits would really interesting. (Probably deserves it's own dropdown.)

Since Marathon dominates many tables, it would also be useful to specify the Speed range Quick-Epic, but this could be worded as omitting Marathon for clarity. To round things out, speed drop-down choices could be Any, Quick, Normal, Epic, Marathon, Omit Quick, Omit Normal, Omit Epic, Omit Marathon. This actually is all subsets of Speed except pairs of Speeds (Quick+Normal, Quick+Epic, Quick+Marathon, Normal+Epic, Normal+Marathon, Epic+Maraton). If subsets of all Speeds were considered to be useful, this could be presented to the user as a check box for each Speed with a default of all four Speeds selected.

It would be useful for this page to present all its info in a way that could be copied and pasted elsewhere, including the game Ids.

Game Info Page:
Including each speed is easier than the prev/next stuff. Taking something out to manage the list size seem like a good idea. Maybe dropping the other Conditions and cutting the lists from Top 10 to Top 5 of each combo. I really don't want to put too much into this one, since finding the ID elsewhere would shortcut a lot of that.

The top 10 of each Speed, lower Difficulty, higher Difficulty, lower Size, and higher Size would be sufficient.

Are you allowed to open save games prior to your current save date, if you don't make any moves?

I just did that by mistake in GMajor 45, but I shut my PC down before it had loaded just in case.

Ok, good to know. Shutting down my PC while it was loading (before the actual load, while it was reading xml etc.) won't cause any problems I hope?

Okay, I added the speeds to Game Info page's dropdown.

See the Ad-Hoc Query thread for details on the changes to it.

Many thanks, Denniz!

It is really helpful to see the speeds in the Game Info page's dropdown as well as seeing the top ten games with the original Game's Speed listed first.

What you did to the "Hall of Fame Ad-Hoc Query" is absolutely amazing! Every reasonable query should be possible now.

You are indeed the Wizard of HOF!

Silly question really -- I have submitted a game, and it hasn't shown up in the Quatromaster's "Status" matrix. It has been accepted. I am keeping track of the games personally as well through my own spread sheet so I am not worried about it, but I guess my question is how often does it get updated?

Another question -- Does a G-Minor/Major count towards the Quatromasters -- I'm pretty sure it does, but I want to know if I should add it onto my spreadsheet as Quatro's Status page hasn't been updated in a while.

Cheers,

Updates are done on the 10th and 25th of every month. That is when it'll move from 'Accepted' to 'Published'.

Yes, they do. They count towards the 'Gauntlet' event.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the response.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't get the BOTM to work.

I uninstalled BTS and did a new fresh install. I then installed the 3.17 patch (Civ4BTS_Patch_v317.zip). Finally I installed the HOF mod (HOF-3.17.001.exe). I then downloaded the save (civ4botm15contender.CivBeyondSwordSave)

I haven't played the GOTM's for a couple of years, but I assume you are supposed to load the save? When I do that (either by loading the HOF mod, then load game, or directly by double-clicking the save), there are two pop-ups: first, one saying the save is proteced, then another one saying "Load failed" and then BTS autoquits. Any suggestions?

EDIT: When I start a custom game it says "The assets are different from a standard install. Contact the HOF staff."

I haven't start to fill up the Rock of Ages table get. Before I start I have one question. I thought that I have to be No 1 to get the 100 EQM points competing with all other ages like ancient. But when I look in the The BaseQscore Table Query, see link below, it looks like there are 2 (or 3 - 1 and 2 is a tie) players with 100 EQM one with starting area ancient and one with other then ancient starting in this case Industrial.

When starting with other then ancient do I compete with ancient or not?

http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/table_query.php?show=summ&condition=Diplomatic&difficulty=Emperor&pubID=78&speed=Marathon&mapSize=Standard&dsply=0&submit=Go

Yes, you are competing against ancient starts for EQM purposes, when doling ROA. However, ancient starts do not compete against non-ancient starts, so you can have two 100 EQM scores on different dates.
what???
let's make it clear :
the EQM points you get from a non ancient start for the Rock of ages are calculated taking into account all (non inca?) entries in the table.
As an example, I have a tiny immortal marathon space colony win with pacal, and I'm the only one with a non ancient start. I only get 8.6 EQM points for this one.

edit: ho I guess I understand now.
If someone wins a space colony on quick large warlord, but doesn't beat my 1916 AD win I made with a classical start he still gets 100 EQM points, right?

Ahh. Yea. I think I need to wrap my brain around this. Gimme a minute here.

Have you patched vanilla to the latest version 1.74? BtS uses shared files with vanilla. If you have done so, run the Assets Checker and post the results here.

Yeah, well the assets checker showed lots of changed assets. Guess I'll try to uninstall everything and then reinstall from scratch. My DVD station broke so let's see when I come around to actually do it.

Make sure you delete anything left behind after you uninstall. Good Luck.
