Every singe vanilla game I get this error after 500-600 turns.

Memory allocation failure – exiting program.
Reason:bad allocation

I don't have those problems playing BtS, only in Vanilla. Now I have learned (the hard way) how to submit a crashed game. But still it's very annoying. Any ides why the error only occurs in Vanilla (I need too play vanilla to get two Space Race victories)?

I don't know the cure but you may be short of memory. Things like reducing graphics settings, increasing virtural memory space, closing other programs, etc. might help.

Check out the Civ4 tech support forum. There are a lot stuff about it there.

I am having a similar problem. Vanilla is crashing my PC, no error messages just a black screen and a need to reboot. I want to submit a space race but can't at the moment. I would have thought that BtS (which is not crashing) would put more strain on my system than vanilla, but apparently not. :(

You must be playing either Epic or Marathon speed, since the maximum turn for both Vanilla Quick and Vanilla Normal is less then 500 (320 and 460 respectively). Solution: Play Quick or Normal speed games. :)

Are you playing Large or Huge maps on Vanilla? They might need more memory than your machine has. Try playing a Dual or Tiny map on Vanilla to see whether you still have the problem.

BtS may have fewer bugs that crash the game than either Vanilla or Warlords.

Maybe you could try Warlords for the Space Race Victory?

Good luck!

Thx. It was a Marathon game, the solution was to save the game after every 150-200 turns, exit and reload the game. Now my two EQM space race is done (until someone beat them, not hard...) and I can go back to play BtS and hunt the rest of the EQM games.

For BTS games using Standard HOF rules, are quests allowed to be turned off?

i'm trying to run HoF game for the first time. and there's some error just as i enter the game. i tried to run it directly trough the save file, not by entering BTS and loading a mod.

could the reason be some other installed mods? i can't think of any other reason, and i'd like to make sure the problem is in other mods before deleting them.

If the error is a windows pop up then you might need to do the Vista Fixes or use an admin account if XP.

If you have mods installed in the Assets under the install path then that would be it. Mods in CustomAssets or a self contained mod like HOF Mod shouldn't. There is an Assetchecker program that you can use to check.

What is the difference between "Space Race" and "Space Colony" victories in the HOF Q'Master status tracker?

What is the difference between "Space Race" and "Space Colony" victories in the HOF Q'Master status tracker?

Space Race is the space victory with Vanilla and Warlords.

Space Colony is the space victory with BtS.

Space Race is the space victory with Vanilla and Warlords.

Space Colony is the space victory with BtS.

The biggest difference is that a Space Race is won as soon as the ship is built while in a space colony, the ship has to be launched and arrive a set number of turns later at the remote destination. Depending on how many of the "extra parts" you put on the ship, the faster it goes and/or the better chance it has to arrive. You also have to hold your capitol the entire time after the ship is launched.

Not sure if I should be posting this here, or on technical forums:

I went back to default settings on my computer. Now, I'm having problems running Civ 4. Took care of the problem loading shader libraries, and got it started. Somehow, my startup settings are gone, though, and it doesn't load 1.74.003 anymore(or windowed). So, I tried to "load a mod". No dice. It was an error that said something like

HOF Mod error: blah, blah, try a user account with admin rights....blah, blah...Vista...blah, blah

I don't have Vista. It's an XP machine. Never had this error message when I first started playing the game, way back. Did have many others.

How do I fix this?

I'm kind of unsure how the game is even there still on the C drive, after I did this to this laptop. Thought it would wipe that drive. But, odd it's still there with my settings all gone.

I am the admin on this machine, by the way. Do not believe it is set up like that, anyhow. But, maybe going to default changed some admin settings? Not sure how to even check that.

Edit: Tried again, after I edited my folder and added to load the Mod. Game says 1.74.003 is not a valid Mod, and it's ignoring it. Yet, it lets me start to load the Mod from in game. Got the error message again, though. Remembered more:

Says " Hof Mod error: Will not be able to save game and will not count toward HoF" Or something like that, then goes to the admin rights, etc.

Maybe just reinstall mod?

Edit 2: Alright...figured out I didn't have it listed in .ini file right. Got it right...but still getting the HoF Mod error. Each time I get it, I can remember more...wish I could copy it somehow.

It says " HOF MOD error: HOF Mod will be unable to save settings. Games will not be eligible for HOF or Game of the Month. Please log in with admin rights.

I am the admin for this laptop. I just went and double checked that....it seems right.

Help! Also, I did redownload and reinstall the mod, too.

I am not sure what you mean by going back to default setting. From your description I am kind of wonder if it wouldn't be best to uninstall civ4 and reload from scratch. It sounds like something is hosed up.

Hi,

I have one question regarding Score, doesn't score counts for EQM (maps, nations)?

After the last update I'm #1 in two different game (score) but didn't get any the 100 EQM for those games (except for the Machiavelli). Normally if you are No 1, you get 100p in maps, nation and Machiavelli. Is score only for Machiavelli (not maps and nation)? Not a "true" winning condition, only valid for tie and Machiavelli?

entry 15782 and 15798.

Crap....I really didn't want to hear that. I just think back to hours and hours of trying to get this game to work, and posting on forums here and downloading multiple fixes. I can't stress how much I don't want to do that again.

Well, I at least know how to fix the Shader Libraries error already now. I just know there was more than just that.

Basically, I took Windows back to it's factory settings, in an effort to clean things up. Viruses, etc. The laptop had started to act a bit too buggy.

Most things in the HOF are fastest finish date. I hadn't really thought about it that way but score would only be used for Machiavelli and gauntlets were score is the victory condidtion.

I assume you had to reinstall Windows to do that. Have you had problems with other installed software? I would think that anything installed previously would have lost it icons, menu options, registry settings, shared DLLs installed under Windows\system, god knows what else... Does Civ4 even show up in Add/Remove Programs?

Nope....it sure doesn't. Good points, as a bunch of my icons went away, after I did this.

That's why I found it odd that the Firaxis folder, and all the contents(seemingly) were still on the C drive, under Program Files. I expected I'd have to reinstall, but when I saw that, my hopes got up that I may not have to.

But, when I put the disk in, and the startup screen comes up, Play is not an option...Install is:)

I guess I know what I need to do.....I assume I can cut or copy my save folders from normal and the HoF mod to not lose my personal Hall of Fame scores? I should be able to do that and just copy them back after reinstall, right?

I seem to recall a problem getting the GOTM to work, that I got a fix for....I guess we'll see, after reinstall.

Edit: Nah..it wasn't a Windows reinstall....just the laptop has a way to go back to it's original factory settings. I did it once before and the computer acted much better. Same this time, other than these problems.

I tried to open an old (3.13) game and got the assets error (I have 3.13 & 3.17 HOF mod installed).

Is it possible to open a 3.13 with Civ patch 3.17 or must I have dual installation?

If I most have dual installation how do I mange that (Vista, i tried to run set-up, but no success)?
