I got this game for free from the Steam holiday sweepstakes (it was in my top 5 wanted games

) And I have finished the single-player and played a fair amount of multiplayer. So, if anyone is interested here is...
My Review :
There are some screenshots but nothing spoilerish
Single player:
If you've been following this game at all in the past week or so you've already heard about the shortness of the single-player campaign. I'm not going to deny this, the SP is definitely short. I have heard estimates of it being 3hrs in length from some people. For me though the campaign was certainly not
that short. I would guesstimate that the SP campaign took me about 6 hours to complete. Certainly not a lengthy game by any stretch, but not as bad as I had been lead to believe.
Overall the campaign was fun, it actually reminded me alot of Half-Life 2. This is not to say the game doesn't have it's flaws - for it certainly does. The story....leaves a bit to be desired lol. Course just about everyone who hears the premise would agree...NK invading and conquering the US?

On the other hand, regardless of the believability of the backstory, fighting amongst the remains of suburbia and "defending the homeland" is actually alot of fun. I know MW2 did this a bit, and while both stories are a bit

it really is pretty cool.
Technically, the game has its ups and downs. The graphics are generally sub-par. Some views and moments are pretty cool looking, but this is more due to the novelty and uniqueness of the setting than graphical beauty.

The sound and voice acting is merely OK. Not terrible but nothing to write home about.
Also, there are several rather annoying moments that can occur in the game, primarily due to scripting of events. Often you will have to wait for an NPC to catch up, or have everyone standing around for 20seconds looking at each other before some event fires and the conversation continues, or a door is opened, etc.
Also, just a personal annoyance, but there were a few times where - I'm sure you know what I mean here - your gun is holstered and you have to just walk from A to B, or talk to person C, or whatever. Well it just seemed to me like you walked..reaaaalllyyy...slooowwwllly. I just wanted to hit shift and run lol.
SP conclusion - The premise and story are quite dumb. There are some neat moments in fighting amidst the wreckage of a suburban landscape similar to what we may live in today, but overall the story falls rather flat. Combine this with lackluster graphics, "what the....

moments", and general glitchy/annoyances, and the SP gets a "meh" grade :
Single-player grade: 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer is definitely more fun than the SP campaign. It has some COD-type leveling effects such as perks and classes, which always continues to appeal to the "must up the numbers" side of me

. Also, buying out equipment ala Counterstrike throughout the game is a neat addition. This is a great way to have a type of "killstreak" but without the COD killstreak annoyances.
There are a few balance issues remaining, and a bit of a scarcity of gun options compared to COD or similar games, but overall the MP is a good deal of fun. I don't see myself playing it for years and years or anything, but it is a good stopgap type game for until Brink/BF3 comes out.
MP grade : 4 out of 5 stars

Not a terrible game but not an insta-buy either. Grab it if you can get it on sale, I personally wouldn't pay $50 for it unless you are really desperate for a MP game immediately, but it is worth somewhere around ~ $35 or so. If you can get it for $40, like I have seen some deals with D2D/Amazon and such, if the game interests you, I would certainly consider it.
