homeyg and Deity

Well done. Don't underestimate Bull's culture speed tho, 38k to 50k won't take long if he turns the 100% culture slider.

AFAIK Zara's spaceship will be destroyed if you capture his capital post-launch. At least that's what I hear for BtS spacerace changes, haven't really seen it happen yet.

I don't have much time for CIV this week, maybe next I'll see where my game is going and also make the post on the inner workings of a superscience city.

Thanks, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't sure about this whole "get the capital stop the spaceship" thing. :mischief: I still need to test this with worldbuilder or something.

I'm very curious what you will make of your game.

That would be very appreciated, US!

As for me, I've been trying games, a few a day, and I've just been getting destroyed by barbarians. I must be in some kind of slump right now..

Not playing pang anymore? :p

dude do you have a problem believing me? or am i the only person who had to conquer the capital to stop AI's spaceship? i have done it numerous times, just trust me. this is not a rumor or speculation, it's a FACT.

I know it was this way back in Civ2. It would be a welcome change. Man, I hate being stuck with only Warlords. Maybe I'll go grab BTS, even though I'm still a crappy Prince player (only had the game about 7 weeks now so trying to improve quickly).

No, that's the thing, I'm playing pangaea and I'm determined to win. The barbs have been really really bad in the last few games though.

Played till 1960 AD.

After a some time spent looking at the map and thinking about what the best way of attacking would be .. I came to the conclusion naval assault saves me the most turns. I signed peace with Zara this turn to build up a new army.

So I had to build/rushbuy 20-25 transports. I really didn't like wasting hammers on them but alas nothing I could do about it. So the next few turns consisted of building/rushbuying artillery and transports. I boarded my army in the far s/w corner of my lands. There was 21 cells between me and Zara, so it would take 5 turns to drop my units off. (There's another sod on the way in the below screeny btw)

Spoiler :

1923 AD, Zara launched. I start moving my transports into position. I will have to fight Zara and Bull at the same time. Bulls city will be close to legendary by the Time Zara arrives at ... where does the spaceship arrive anyways?

My units can reach both Poverty Point and Addis Ababa. This is nice, when I declare war I can use 2 boats to scout the amount of defenders so I can still decide how much units attack which city. In the meanwhile I've been building/rushbuying mech inf to set up a defensive force. Bull is going to attack my border cities no doubt.

1930 AD, Zara is only a few turns away from victory and so is Bull. It's time for war. They basically own half the world's landmass so this might be fun. All my units are in place. I got 88 units in the attack, and 35 spread over my two border cities for defense. At this point I started to make artillery again, I'm planning to use that defensive force for offense when time is ripe.

I dow Zara and I dow Bull. I ask Mao if he could spare joining the war against Bull and he agrees. I ask Shaka the same thing against Zara and he agrees too. Thanks mates.

I got massive unhappiness and I need to switch to Police state.

Spoiler :

1931 AD, I take Zara's capital. It was weakly defended, about 15 units only. His space race failed. Bull on the other hand has a lot of cities nearby the targeted city and he attacks me with a shitload of units. I attack Poverty point but fail to take it this turn, he had +- 70 units in there which was just too much for me to take out in one turn.

1932 AD, I do a second attack on Poverty Point and it falls, I raze it and move my left over units on a hill to heal. So far .. mission accomplished.

Bull trew a lot of units on my border cities but failed to take it. Sucker!

1933 AD map.

Spoiler :

1936 AD, I made enough artillery to use my defensive force for offense. I capture Turfan and keep it.

1939 AD, I capture Beshalik and keep it.

1944 AD, I capture Spiro and keep it.

1945 AD, I capture Mound City and keep it. (took it with my old naval invasion sod.)

1950 AD, I capture Mesa Verde and keep it.

1956 AD, I capture Cahokia and raze it due culture problems if I keep it. I'm planning to sue for peace with Bull soon and focus on Zara, he's getting on my nerves with his culture pressure.

1960 AD, Bull offers the city Anhaica for a peace treaty and I take it.

Map overview.

Spoiler :

The next session I'll just keep warring. I have a slight problem though. My elite mech inf stack can't reach my lands due culture from Bull. A very stupid mistake of me. But I was working on a nice secondary sod, I got 38 art ready in that one but I need to wait for more mech infs before I move it.

I want to sign peace with Zara so I can switch out of police state and rushbuy mech infs. I can't go out of police state while at war, it would give me massive unhappiness. But Zara wants one of my cities for peace .. dream on mate.

Anyways next session I'll aim to get that sod ready and capture some cities from Zara. He only needs 2 more space parts for launch again. But he made his capital up north of me, what an idiot. I can get there in a few turns if needed. >_>; So I'm aiming at getting New Serai -> Avar -> Adwa .. wait till he launches and then take his capital there.

I got two options for a win.
- I take the northern cities of Zara, wipe out Bull, wipe out Mao, wipe out Shaka and go for domination.
- I keep attacking Zara and Bull and win by diplo from the UN.

ps: Zara is owning my seas with just 1 naval unit and it's pissing me off since he got stealth bombers on it and killing off resources every turn. I send 2 cruisers over there and both died with 90% win :gripe: ... so I just ignored it and stopped wasting hammers on naval units. >_> It's kinda gimping my capital but w/e.

Nice job BurN! I would go for domination!

I'm getting better.. I played an offline successfully researched Liberalism first. The next online game should show some improvement on my part!

Yea domination would be nice but diplo might be much faster. All this warring is driving me nuts, every turn takes ages to complete. I got voted for secretary, I'll propose diplo victory to see how many votes I get/need.

If do a bit more warring / got Mao and Shaka voting for me / farm everything it should be a valid option. What's the limit on turns anyways? This will be the latest victory ever for me, oh the shame. :mischief: Winning by time would be kinda lame. :p

Good to hear you got out of your barb-hole and playing a good game. Anything in particular that you changed in your play? ;)

I expanded a little bit quicker and built a few more warriors. Other than that, I played the same.

K so i left at 1960AD. Zara is close to launch once again.

1960-1969 AD, building units .. and more units .. and more. I was planning to grab a few more cities before going after Zaras capital but I felt I didn't have the power since my main mech inf stack is out of play thanks to Mr. Culture.

1970 AD, Zara launches. I got a reasonable sod to go after his capital. 20 mech inf / 33 art / 10 gunship (Mao researched flight).
1974 AD, I attack Zara's capital and fail to take it in 1 turn.
1975 AD, I capture Ndondakusuka (Zara's capital). He loses his space race.
1981 AD, captured Avar. Mao researched Lasers, now I can build mobile artillery. Hell yea! :trouble:
1984 AD, captured Adwa.

Map:
Spoiler :

1989 AD, captured New Serai.
1991 AD, captured Tiflis. Mao researched composites. I can now build Modern armor.
1993 AD, captured Tabriz.
1997 AD, captured Ning-hsia.

Powergraph:

Spoiler :

2000 AD, captured Samarqand.
2001 AD, captured Otrar. Which means no more Genghis.
2005 AD, captured Massawa.

2007 AD, I sign peace with Zara in exchange for Adulis, a Zulu city. Take 3 guesses who's next? Yup, I dow Bull .. he's causing heavy culture problems that need to be taken care off. I got about 180 units on the map now, good luck defending.

2008 AD, captured Otmulgee. Mao and Shaka seem to have signed a defensive pact at this stage.

Map:
Spoiler :

2010 AD, captured Nanih Waiya.
2012 AD, captured Nacogdoches.
2014 AD, captured Kituhwa.
2017 AD, captured Chaco Canyon.
2018 AD, captured Moundville. I'm running at -51 gpt now with only 10% culture and the rest in gold. But I can always build wealth to keep producing more units.
2021 AD, captured Snaketown.
2022 AD, captured Ainu. Say bye bye to Bull.

At this point Zara completed all his space parts again. But he's not launching? Maybe he already learned that's not a good idea. I got a secondary sod close to his capital, just in case.

I will leave Zara allone for now. I'm thinking long and hard who to attack. I decide Shaka would be the easiest. I bribe him into war with Zara and he loses his defensive pact with Mao.

2024 AD, I dow Shaka. Captured Nodwengu.

2025 AD, Mao launches. WHAT? Oh my god, I was keeping track of his parts but I must have missed some with all the combat messages. Well I'm at 60% land mass at this point. Only need 4% more, I need to hurry. Shaka wasted his sod on my sod, bad move. I captured Kwadukuza.

2026 AD, captured uMgungundlovu.
2027 AD, captured Nubamba. I don't want to take too many risks, I dow Zara. I got a pretty big sod near his capital anyways. The faster I'm grabbing these cities, the better.

2028 AD, captured Fasil Chebbi and Uhandi. I got 64% land mass, game over. :trophy:

My 1st deity win, latest win ever and the longest time spend playing ever. :p Very curious how Sun's game will end, he's in a stronger position at lib then I was.

Excellent job BurN! I didn't realize that this would be your first Deity win!

Thanks and I haven't exactly tried deity in bts before. I gave it 2 tries in vanilla and lost both. :mischief: But I think deity is still a tad too difficult for me, this was far from a confident win. I was behind in techs the whole time after lib and I'm glad I managed "not to lose". :p

Edit: When I'm posting anyways. Props to Minmaster for notifying me on the capital+space. It was something I didn't know. :hatsoff:

That was some win :goodjob:

Thanks, this game took ages to complete.

Granary, granary, granary, granary.

It finally clicked in my head that I need granary.

Post your next online game soon I want to try this too since i'm an emperor player as well. Izzy was not my favorite leader.

I haven't had much time for CIV lately, only playing in pitboss and a deity challenge on Apolyton.

The challenge is somewhat similar to Izzy's position is terms of area to expand and cultural pressure, although the overall settings are easier IMO. Take a look if you're interested.

Homeyg might be abducted by aliens. I would be interested in another game as well. :)

Too bad you abandoned this game due time issues.

The apolyton challenge looks interesting to try. Though I dislike epic, no barbs and perm alliances. With good diplo you already win the game.

I dislike those settings too, as well as playing against so many opponents while being conviniently located on a peninsula. On the flip side, Gilga is a terrible neighbor and the mess of AIs means most of the time at least one will hate you for religion or whatever.

PS. Haven't abandoned this game, just postponed it. I don't see me winning without lots of warfare, and warfare is so time consuming.

Good to hear you just postponed it. I'd agree a lot of warring is needed which can be tedious.

I surely will give that challenge a try when I find the time, looks like a fun game nonetheless.
