How did you decide on your forum name?

I've chosen my nickname, talking of WillJ's suggestion of "normal" meaning of nickname. Originally, it began with a "K" instead of "G", but it was smoothed by time and new friends and turned me into a cricket(=Grille).

Not my real name, but the name I use in a variety of places online.

I am the sort of guy who doesn't much care if the rest of the world doesn't see things his way, and has no problem telling the rest of the world it is wrong when it is:D and I like a variety of classical music including Wagner. So... the name of the forest-man from the "wild clan that doesn't hold holy what others worship" seemed to fit well.

It's the name I use in various online chat places, its longer form Siegmund aus dem Engelnwald is my Society for Creative Anachronism persona (no, its not a coincidence that the initials spell out 'Sade' *evil smirk*), and in an alternate history of WWI at warships1.com ("Letterstime"), I appear as the captain of the light cruiser SMS Straßburg.

Oh, I thought you were just ******** or something... ;)

Well, when I was in the army, some of the NCOs would call me "L.T." and it just stuck with me.

Also, when I played baseball in high school, my nickname on the mound was "The Terror" aka "The T" as when I started pitching (back even in little league) I had a reputation for being a little wild at times (I hit the first two batters I faced). I think my accuracy improved but not nearly enough to shake the nickname. I'd blame that on the reason why I didn't get drafted after high school, but it probably had more to do with not throwing in the 90's. I liked playing center field or catching more, in any case.

Used to listen to a lot of heavy-metal music, and been using this handle on various internet sites for 5 or 6 years now, so I've just stuck with it. Don't really listen to heavy metal any more, except for the occasional Metallica tune/concert, but I like the name, so I've stuck with it. Any forum that matters (read: here and 'Poly), I've been able to get this name without having to stick any numbers on the end, so I have had no desire to change it, but given my inability to come up with good names for anything, I'd probably pick a crappy one anyway.

Ashoka was the warrior king in ancient India/Southeast Asia who became a Buddhist and renounced violence. He was a major force in spreading the new religion in the ancient world.

Sort of a mixture between St. Paul and Julius Ceasar.

I'm hoping I move towards more enlightenment myself.

Silverflame has always been my internet screen name. Silverflame sounds better than Goldenflame or Goldflame in my opinion. So I'm Silverflame. No real reason outside that.

Well, I'm sure anyone who plays Civ knows a bit about Julius Caesar, so I shouldn't have to explain that one.

Being Irish-American, I thought Irish Caesar sounded a lot cooler than anything else I could come up with using Julius' name.

I loved the movie The Mummy at the time i registered. I have grown to dislike my name now (though the movie is still amazing) I wish it was somethin cooler. If i had to make a new name it would probably be i dunno. Its hard but probably Kid A, after the Radiohead song. Sounds cool. The song is the main reason though. With a whopping 300 somethin posts do you think i could get it changed?

Used this dogtag prior to Civfanatics for playing Counter-strike...inspired to piss off someone called ChaosDragon in a server I was in to put him off his game.

Did it work...oh yes, especially as everytime he'd type I'd spam "I am the kittenOFchaos" :p Very immature for anyone out of nappies, I know, but I don't care.

I took my name from the Cimbri tribe. I wrote this a few months ago in a similar thread but I don’t think I wrote anything about the tribe itself, so here’s some info:

The Cimbri (or Kimbrer) was a Germanic tribe living in the Jutland-peninsula in Denmark (You know, the tiny northern country). In c. 120 B.C. some drunken guy had the bright idea that the whole tribe should uproot and wander south.
Thinking: “Sounds like a great idea” the neighbouring tribe, called the Teutons (Teutoner) decided to follow, starting the snowball effect. Other tribes followed, among them Ambrones, Cherusci and Helvetii (Celts).

The wandering south was much to the dismay of the Celtic tribes (Scordisci and Boii), but in 113 B.C. the Cimbri came into first contact with the Romans, who were (if possible) even more dismayed. At Noricum they defeated a Roman army under Consul Gnaeus Papirius Carbo (Famous last words: “When in Rome… Aaargh!!”). They requested land from the Romans but this was denied. They turned away from Italia.

In 109 B.C. they clashed with the Romans again, defeating the consul Marcus Junius Silanus in southern Gaul (Famous last words: “One Roman Legion could easily defeat a million barbarians… Aaargh!!”). Again they turned away from Italia.

Moving around to every corner of Gaul (like a ping-pong game), the Cimbri eventually tried to enter Spain. The Iberians being somewhat less tourist-minded at the time thought: “A few hundred Scandinavian tourists is good for business, a few hundred thousands (with spears) is not”

Bouncing back towards the Roman provinces in 105 B.C., the Cimbri again clashed with two Roman armies at Arausio, defeating the Consul Gnaeus Mallius Maximus and the Proconsul Caepio (Famous last words: “Combining our forces is a silly idea… Aaargh!!” - Chorus). This time they began wandering towards Italia.

But all funny things come to an end, and in 102 B.C. the Teutons and Ambrones got themselves annihilated by the Roman Consul Caius Marius at Aquae Sextiae (Famous last words: “What ambush?.. Aaargh!!” – Germanic Chorus)
And in 101 B.C. the Cimbri was finally defeated by Marius and fellow consul Catulus Caesar at Campi Raudi in Northern Italy (Famous last words: “Consequences, Schmonsequences?.. Aaargh!!” – Germanic Chorus

I have blood ties in the Himmerland-region of Jutland, where the Cimbri is believed to originate from (According to Tacticus – Germania). So I decided to use the name Cimbri when on the net…

Cimbri :crazyeye:

hbdragon88 is something that my mom made up for our isp service, and they name has stuck. I've used it for everything. Considering this in mind, anyone could figure out my email addresses.

WildFire was a name I used for Quake 3 online because I sprayed and prayed when I shot (except with the railgun  ) and the 444 is because 4 is my lucky number but only WildFire4 looked stupid
