I've started taking videos with my new sony handycam but the film files that are created when I transfer it to my computer are too large. A 20 minute film takes up almost 1 gig. I used to use virtualdub to compress my Fraps videos but I get an error telling me I can't convert mpeg2 files with fraps. Does anyone else have this problem? I even tried converting my videos to avi but I haven't found an effective program to do that yet. Is there a sure fire way of compressing videos from video cameras?

Well, you could get the trial version of Sony Vegas if it's only a one time thing.

Hi
Guess Fraps isn't the best way to solve ur problem. I had some problems with Fraps too.
Why don't u convert ur video to flash? Flash format has less weight. I can suggest visit visifly.com. You'll find good converters there :) Cheers.

Super C can compress and convert between several video formats, check the screenshot below to see if yours is listed. If not, the new version may include it.

Here's a screenshot

Did your handycam come with any software? Is it a miniDV tape handi cam or HDD or mini DVD?

What is your intended purpose for the video? If its DVD there are very specific settings you need to use or will end up compressing and recompressing your video and as such loose quality.

Except VisiCrop! is paid software, and from the looks of the site, pretty generic.

VidCrop is good! I've been using it for a long time & havn't any problem with it!:)
