You know those car fish emblems?

I want one, but I want one that doesn't appear to be sold right now.

I want one that says "Dali" and the fish is sort of melted over a clock, or a clock melted over the fish a la Persistence of Memory.

Anyone know who makes custom car emblems?

One approach is to take the original plastic version you buy and then heat it slowly until it is soft enough to stretch and shape like you want it to look. Be careful not to get it so hot it catches fire and the small sections melt away. For a car you would need to keep it 2D. I'm guessing you should start with several originals and expect some failures. Adding a clock makes everything more complicated and you might need to turn to resin casting. That is easy if you know a shop (I do) but can get pricey because of the mold costs.

The one with the Greek letters is spelled wrongly. Should have been ΙΧΘΥΣ, not ΙΧΘΥΕ (sic) (on second thought the final letter probably is a Sigma, but styled horribly and looking like an Epsilon...).

ΙΧΘΥΣ means fish, but also famously was argued to be an acronym for Ιησούς Χριστός Θεού Υιός Σωτήρ (Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior). Which is part of the reason why the fish became a symbol for christianity.

Know anyone that works in tool & die?

Really? In Greek the constituent letters of the word fish are an acronym for "Jesus, son of God, saviour"? So it'd be the same as fish in English being spelled Jsogs?

That's pretty interesting. Is that a coincidence or what?

Re the analogous acronym in English, if we keep the word progression it would be J C G S S (Jesus Christ God's Son Savior) :)

AFAIK the acronym had prominent significance due to (i think) Jesus being born at the start (?) of the astrological age of Pisces.

The great demarcation point in the history of the astrological ages is around 127 BC when the Greek astronomer-astrologer Hipparchus from observation discovered that the great immovable sphere of fixed stars was not fixed but slowly moving eastwards due to what is now known as precession of the equinoxes. It is possible that some other astronomers before Hipparchus had also noticed the phenomenon but it is Hipparchus who has taken the fame. This discovery by Hipparchus is not entirely unexpected as Hipparchus is considered to have been the greatest observational astronomer in his time and up until Tycho Brahe in the 16th century AD. What is highly contentious in modern times is the claim by many that observation of the effects of precession of the equinoxes was known well before the time of Hipparchus and his contemporaries in Greece or even Mesopotamia. The academic answer is no – precession of the equinoxes was unknown in earlier times.

The above link mentions in its end that the Age of Pisces has been completed a couple of years ago, or will end in a century or so.

As for the question about the acronym and how easy it would be to just adjest the name of someone to it, well, due to the astrological age you would have to have at least some of the letters refer to the Greek name of that person (in this case, Jesus and Christ, the latter of which is a Greek word which means 'christened', ie bathed or otherwise entered into sacred/official ceremony or role). So it is not entirely impossible to just fit the name into the ΙΧΘΥΣ, but i have not read how and when that happened (obviously the last three letters are of the known Greek terms, respectively for God, Son, and Savior).

You are just asking to be rammed by the Dali haters.

Are you sure that there is no one who already claims the copyright for this design?

You could order something like that 3D printed if you find and alter a digital model of it to suit your purposes. Priced by material and size, it can be pretty cheep.

For example at www.shapeways.com

Damn.

3-D printing is insane.

We are living in the future.

3-D printing (when the printers cost far less) will allow people like me to print their own 3d models of buildings ;)

So yeah, it is super-cool. Imagine creating your own toys with the textures you complete and shape in a computer screen via a 3d-modeller.

I have to suppose it will help a lot in scientific modelling as well (eg in models of chemical reactions, and so on; some 3d programs already use the data to have a computer simulated chemical environment).

I'm forcibly reminded why I dislike bumper stickers.
