Do they have some kind of chip in your TV or something? This has bothered me for many years.

Do you mean it is possible for e.g. sky digiboxes to send information about what you are watching? I don't think that would work, since it couldn't tell if the TV was on or not -- how many people switch their sky boxes off when they're done watching?Iggy said:Bamspeedy, I am fairly sure that it is the same system in the UK.
I am sure that it would be easy to utilise digital systems such as satellite or cable to submit accurate feed back. The more accurate the info they have, (and coupled with their knowledge of the household members) then the more they can justify higher advertising charges to the relevant advertiser.
Yes I believe it is possible with a minor modification of a digibox to send that info back to sky. Of course you have a point regarding the digibox being left on. Also you cannot tell which member(s) of a household are watching the programs.Mise said:Do you mean it is possible for e.g. sky digiboxes to send information about what you are watching? Hmm, it might work on cable, but on sky, I'm pretty sure it can't because you'd need the satellite dish on the side of your house to start sending transmissions; as far as I know, it is only a receiver. But I suppose they could use the telephone lines or something (freephone with our permission).Iggy said:Yes I believe it is possible with a minor modification of a digibox to send that info back to sky.
