How do you stop the camera from moving to the currently selected unit(s)?

When I have a unit selected, the screen will keep moving the camera back to to the unit as soon as I exit the city view instead of returning to the location I was previously looking at. If the city happens to be on the other side of the world, I am forced to scroll all the way back. If I need to look at multiple cities far away from the unit, this becomes incredibly tedious, as I have to scroll back every single time for every city I want to look at.

I only want the camera to centre on a unit when I specifically tell it to, either through the hotkey or clicking on the 3D model on the bottom-left. Is there a way to stop the game from re-positioning the camera on the currently selected unit? Or, if not, is there a way to deselect units?

I kinda know what you are talkin' bout, but it's never bothered me much. There is an option called "No Unit Cycling" in the General Options tab. You could try it out...I've not before. Otherwise, not sure how to help..maybe someone else will know.

oh..I'll link to page with hotkeys. You might find something useful here that will help with navigation:

Keyboard Shortcuts

BUG/BULL mod may have something included that I'm not aware of that helps with this..not sure, but you can check the BUG options in game.
(edit: nah..don't see any bug options that apply)

I know the problem. The way that I deal with it is to click on the city on the mini map in the lower right screen corner. The camera then jumps to there, eliminating the tedious scrolling.

ha..good point. I'm so use to using the mini-map to navigate that I don't even think about it.

There is an option called "No Unit Cycling" in the General Options tab.

If you do this, is there still a way to select "next unit", just without it automatically moving your camera until you do so?

Cntrl-W moves to the next unit, whether Unit Cycling is on or off. (Cmnd-W on Mac)

I also think tab does it. But it's been a while since I tried.

My bad. I know I was hitting tab a lot for some reason. It shows me the turn log.

Now that you mention it, it isn't Cntrl-W to switch units. Now that I think about it, I just press W alone. That is what makes the move to the next unit. Sorry about the goof up in what I said before.

I also sympathize with this problem. Often I am trying to work on a certain city, going in and out of it and monitoring terrain, etc. Gets annoying having to come back each time.

One catch to watch for in using W to cycle through is it completes each units task if it's been given one, and I often don't want to do that (pending chops, important moves, etc.). K-mod seems undo this, so that given unit tasks apply at the end not the beginning.

I use the minimap a lot. That's pretty much how I exit the city screen every time. Means the screen will be where you want it, instead of zooming to a unit on the other side of the world.
