How does Civ V perform for you?

Hi,

I am interested in the experiences on different configs.

I'll fill in my config in this post tonight (Done).

Basically, it's an older iMac (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with 2GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro w/ 256MB DRAM

The game runs OK, but feels sluggish, and needs to re-draw the tiles after panning etc. It seems that after I've been playing for a while, the re-drawing is not necessary, and performance is less sluggish. This is for my latest game on a 'Large' map.

How about you guys?

Basically, I'm trying to find out if the level of config you have is affecting the gameplay at all.

Cheers.

Late 2009 MacBookPro, 2.6Ghz, 8GB Ram, Nvidia 9600, game runs pretty smooth with medium gfx settings until about turn 100 then it starts jumping around a bit. For late games, the best performance comes in windowed mode at lowest resolution with everything on low/minimal. Its still playable, but at turn 200+ when the map moves to show you the selected unit/city the frame per second seem like they're in the negative! The largest map I've played is small, Im scared to try a larger one.

I am playing on a newer Macbook Pro. 4 GB RAM, 2.66GHz Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M video card.
I'm having no problems with the game so far although I've only gotten to about turn 130 with a few cities for each Civ. I'll have to see how my computer handles it when I get further. I have most of the graphics settings on low, but Fog of War is on high as is one other setting. Turns and all that go at the usual pace. The map looks pretty sexy on my mac.
I can't wait until I can utilize the multi-player with PC. That's the main thing I want.

I have an iMAC with an i5 Quad Core 2,8GHz, 4GB Ram and a Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB. I have most settings on high and played standard maps. Later in the game (after turn 200-300 it redraws a lot, but it still plays quite ok. However I have not even finshed one game playing on the Mac as in the current state this game is no fun for me. It is endless END TURN, END TURN, END TURN if you are not at war and if you are at war the AI is no challenge. Just a note : under Bootcamp in Direct X11 mode the game looks much, much better. However as I am quite disappointed with the game itself I cannot be bothered to reboot under Windows.

Mid-2010 corei5 MBP, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia 330M. Windowed mode 1024x768. OS X 10.6.5 Gfx settings all on low/min/off. For standard map games, anything >turn 100 is more or less unplayably slow unless I play in Strategic View (it's not clear if the other posters are playing in 3d or strategic view). Also I'm getting crashes right and left.

Playing the PC version in Crossover Games on my MBP has better performance and less crashing than the Mac version.

Thanks everyone. BTW, if you're wondering how far the game will go, I'm currently on about turn 600 on my Epic/Large game.

Cheers.

iMac Early 2009 here and no so bad, it runs well apart from the fact that when the game is a few advance it runs slower and slower...

Some non-permanent graphic bugs, these bugs change at each reload...

Of course i'm satisfied of this game : Civ 5 !

Only Civilization could fill my free time with lot of pleasure ;)

MBP Core i7, 8GB RAM, 512MB VRAM. Runs very well. Only at about turn 200 on a standard map, but totally satisfied with performance so far.

Get occasional crashes, but no more than expected.

Well, a sad story ending for me. After about turn 600 on the Large/Epic game, I had to just stop. The AI turns were just taking too long, and moving was just lagging too badly.

I'm now playing a Small map at Quick pace :)

Cheers.

Early 2009 iMac. Less bugs than I expected, but pretty slow in gameplay and loading roads and other details in the tiles. Play standard map on Epic. Turn 400 now, and although it looks very nice, I find the game pretty boring. Easy even. Soon I will try a harder game, because next to the speed of the game, I fall asleep of boringness :-(.

I'm on a 3.2Ghz i3 iMac with 4 GB of memory and I am frozen at turn 715. The game crashes every time I try to advance to the next turn. I'm playing a domination only (I think - not sure if I retained the space ship option) huge epic game on continents at the Prince level. Point wise, I'm second, although I own most of one of the two continents and THINK I control the sea approaches. My "friends" the Persians own most of the other continent and have been very secretive regarding their naval capabilities. I have the only land available for further expansion on my continent.

I would love to finish the game even if the graphics load slowly but I'm absolutely stuck. Ive even set all of the video options to the lowest levels and closed all other programs but the game still crashes whenever I try to advance to the next turn. I welcome all possible solutions.

Switch to 2d ("strategic") view. Does that help?

I'd check the following:
- Heat (unlikely in this particular case, but you never know)
- RAM issues (get a memory tester)
- HD issues (boot off OS X disk and run disk repair)

The version we're running is definitely buggy in big games. I had the same issue on the Win version when it was at the same patch level.

Well, I ran the tests and it isn't my computer. I sort of figured that since it is only a few months old and was their latest version when I bought it.

I guess it is as "naphouse" says - the program is just plain buggy with large games!

Thanks for trying.

I am honestly having the best results (I even finished a large map game) by restarting the Mac and then immediately playing. Best performance for me by far.

Cheers.

I wish I had your luck with the re-start. My game is a huge/epic game (I just kinda like them) and I thought/hoped that with 4 GB of RAM, I would be able to manage it. I see that my assumption was wrong with this supposedly "post-beta" game release.

Some folks may suggest playing a smaller/faster game, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of having all those options available?

Take care!

iMac 3.2GHz i3 with 8GB RAM and the Radeon 5670 - no problems so far having played a fair few times since Christmas. One thing I did do was to disable the autosaves having read some horror stories on here !

MBP 2.8 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB ram; NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

I love BIG LONG games. This thing hangs at around turn 650 and will not proceed further. :(
Two games in a row now. I am not happy.
