How does skype know where im calling from

i would like someone to tell me what method skype uses to know or to locate someone calling from skype. If im in the US or not. plus i would also like to know does the free calling to the USA and Canada apply to when the calls a forwarded. meaning i call someone who lives in the USA who has skype and their callds are fw to a mobile phone. will they be charged.

seriously, it's pretty easy to determine where someone's calling from by his IP (at least you get the location of his ISP).

I think they know where you're calling from because of your ISP and/or IP address.

I can't help you with the call forwarding question, but if any cell user is charged airtime for incoming calls I don't think skype calls would be exempt from the same airtime fees.

They can trace it through your IP. It's in the software.

Interesting. How come it's easy to hack?

I use Skype, but I'm not worried if someones listening into my conversations, I'm not a secret agent, and my conversations are liable to be only of interest to those I'm talking too? If your a top secret agent, a fundementalist terorist or a criminal on the run, then maybe you should consider getting something highly secure?

According to this pdf, skype has a very good encription system. That might just be for their code though, I haven't read it fully.
