I figure Firaxis has about 24 hours before I go back and throw this game at Best Buy. I know its not thier fault, but s**t rolls down hill.

How long will all of you give Firaxis to have a fix out for the graphic problems before you also return the game?

UPDATE (since this has been moved to General Discussions instead of bugs)

This is relevant to whatever bug it is that is affecting SO many video cards.

I'd also likely give them 48 hours ;)

I'll give them two weeks to fix it, but I really want someone from Firaxis to speak up on whether Cheshire Cat/Dark Terrain is due to T&L, and whether they are going to patch it. And I want them to speak up FAST. I'll wait a long time for a fix (and yes, I consider two weeks long), but I want to at least know whether a fix is in the pipeline or not.

Yes, there are only three sites where this is being discussed heavily and it would not be to much to ask that they have at least 3-5 people online with one developer for backup for the evening answering questions and at least assuring us that things will be taken care of right away.

The anticipation leading up to buying the game, let alone loading it was intense, as I'm sure it was for everyone else. This bug sucks, period. How could something like this have slipped past the dev team? It seems like scores of people are affected by this (at least anyone w/ an ATI graphics card, which is probably at least 50%). Firaxis needs to at least post on their website tomorrow morning about this. :(

Moderator Action: Well, when they're here reassuring people, its taking resources away from actually fixing the problem. And Trip has been fairly active here today in posting feedback, and Soren Johnson was responding in the Technical Support forum.

Please try and keep this forum for genuine bug reports. As this has a few replies, I'll move it to Civ4 GD.

Well, its affecting a good amount of GeForce cards as well. So far I know of one card that outright won't work with it, the 256mb "Asylum" nVidia GForce 5200. Two folks, exact same problem no matter what, which is that it works, but all we see is the main screen with no menu.

I was lucky enough to get a refund at EB already after providing proof that there is a huge problem with the game not running on ATI cards. As much as I hated having to do it, I can't support a game that doesn't even boot up on my machine.

As soon as a fix is released, I'll be back at the store to buy it again.

I can't believe I'm gonna have to pay over $100 and wait a week to get a new video card for this game. Not when I already have a top of the line 256mb GeForce 5200. It seems the card most likely to work without problems so far has been the Radeon 9800. Anyone else know any more good ones?

Way to go, dummy. Instead of just keeping the game, you spent hours of your time returning it, and will still spend time buying it again.

I think sometimes money can be better invested in the short term. Honestly I'm with bshock. But I'll wait a couple days and see what comes of this.

The feedback posted has not addressed the Cheshire Cat/Dark Terrain issue at all, that I have seen - and I have been combing the threads looking for a solution.

It would take a total of a couple of minutes to let us know whether Firaxis considers it an addressable issue or not, and another minute to ask a moderator to make the post sticky at the top of the bugs forum so that it's plainly visible.

The only thing that's stopping me from returning the game is that I wouldn't be able to get the pre-order edition again - with no answer from Firaxis on whether the Cheshire Cat/Dark Terrain issue is going to be addressed, Civ IV will be sitting on my shelf, collecting dust.

It took all of 5 mins to drive down to EB and return it. I wanted to get another game in the process anyway, so no time lost. Thanks for the kind words though.

Yea, but what did you gain?

Peace of mind over the fact I didn't support a publisher who rushed out a buggy product.

I hear ya. I want them to see the financial blunder they just made. And who's to say people that return the product will go back and buy it again. I for one don't want to sit around with a new doorstop while some developers with my money fumble there way to a fix.

My life can go on without Civ IV.

Do you really think that it will not ever be fixed? By your logic, you should never buy the game, or any other from that publisher. Right?

bshock - agree with you on this, its a gesture (albeit a small one) to show that you aren't going to put up with a dodgy product being released.

So what if it takes 5 minutes or 15 - its your time and your peace of mind that matters ... and the fact that you haven't got an expensive computer game doorstop.

I remember Atari forums going mad over Roller Coaster Tycoon 3's original release and the massive bugs in it. While way over and above the scale of what's happening here, the developers eventually had to take notice and do something.

I'm sick of companies release 1/2 or 3/4 finished product so as to meet their precious deadlines. I know there's always going to be some problems, but what's an extra 2-3 weeks in development if it means a better game.

Well done bshock
