Instead of going off topic in another thread I thought this topic deserved its own thread to show how many icons people actually keep on the desktop. Is it your aim to fill the screen with icons or to have as few as possible to keep that background free to view?

Btw I have 3 icons so I guess I fall into the second category.

Recylce Bin and Temporary icons (files that are created within the day and are sorted into the appropriate folders by the end).

So when I am done for the day, just one.

116 icons

(i dont usually post here, but the title of the thread grabbede attention when going down to site feedback to checki things out; also, if ye doest not belive me, I can provide ye with a holy screen shot to provith the number, the number that shalt be proven)

that said, almost all ofthem are either downloaded files I haven sorted out for either school, or civ3 units, or spy ware thart i cant seem to be able to get rid of with anti-spy programs...

That would've been my thread, wouldn't it? :p

@Xen - You could have easily edited your 1st post in this thread, instead of spamming up a 2nd one to provide add info to your 1st post, 1 minute after posting your 1st post.

Just counted - 9 icons. But I only use, like 3... :hmm:

30 icons on mine, about 25 of them came with the computer. I'm too lazy to open the start menu, so most programs I use have a desktop shortcut (like Flash, Word, Spybot, etc.).

Ten. Four standard (My Documents, Recycle, My Computer, My Network), and six shortcuts to folders. Then nine application shortcuts in my quick launch on the task bar.

About 32 on my work desktop. A bunch is just stuff that I d/l'd and haven't sorted yet.

Too many at home.

I had 20 at work, all stuff that was somehow work related, but like I said...

Much prefer to run off of the quick launch bar, as I often have maximized screens or screens that take up a full screen. I use a virtual desktop program, and depeding on what screen I'm looking at, I've either got four taking up the whole screen, or maximized screens for mail/browsers.

I had some 10 or a little over on our family comp, but on my brand - new 2 day old iBook only one - Macintosh HD...

Yep.

To further clarify I have the recycle bin and then two folders, one for games shortcuts and the other for other programs although thats not exactly what both folders contain.

None. I have my desktop icons hidden. I make them visible every now and then, to see if any program I recently installed made one without asking first. They get deleted straight away.

eh. 19 here.

usually a bit more, more like 25-30 on my other computer.

This thread reminded me to clean up my desktop. I had 17 and now I'm down to 11.

About 20, not too bad I guess. I try to keep the more important icons on the screen and all the ones I don't need away (like that AOL crap on your desktop when you first turn on your computer!).

33 icons - some for anti-virus and anti-spyware, some civ related, email, rec.bin, and some for programs I use on a more or less daily basis. time saving stuff, and also a relatively small amount, so that I dont clutter the desktop
