I guess if you're stressed and only have time for a 5 min break it helps. But, in the grand scheme of things there are any number of better ways of dealing with stress.
Tried smoking a cigarette I swiped from my aunts purse when I was around 15 or 16. One drag and said "Screw this!" After the necessary, "Ugh! This tastes f--king terrible!"
That was a direct quote, not intended to offend smokers. I apologize if it did, but that's just my thoughts (and tastes) on the matter.
Although i do not recall what the first cigarette i ever had felt like, i definately remember that the ones i had after it, particularly in the beginning, were very pleasing Back then i could indeed sense a change in my mood when smoking. Now addiction is part of it, and that effect of pleasantness is less evident, although i still maintain that it helps me be more concentrated. For example i always smoke when i am writing something.
I've never smoked, neither tobacco nor other. I decided as a teenager not to touch the stuff and have always been grateful to my younger self for that decision
Among the people I work with in my company (white collar types, management) almost no one smokes any more - typically, in a large meeting, there are only one or two smokers who need a ciggie break now and then, vs. about 15 non-smokers. Some of those smoked in the past, though, and managed to give it up.
You should smoke more as in most Western countries the revenue derived from taxes incorporated into the shelf-price of cigarettes and other tobacco prices typically outweighs the cost to health care systems. Therefore, by smoking, you are funding education, defense, etc, to a much greater degree than deadbeat non-smokers.
