Do online custom battles count? ever sense I got fiber internet I've been doing a number of online battles. There are a surprisingly large number of brand new players (such as myself, celebrinbor1 if anyone ever wants to do an online battle). My first online game was against another person who had never played online before either and this was a few days ago! I do a number of online battles, followed by campaign battles. I rarely do offline custom battles however
Rarely. When I do it's usually to test out battle combinations that I don't see in game very often, such as guns vs elephants or longbows vs knights, or to see whether hundreds of peasants can defeat a much inferior number of a stronger unit.
But I don't really care about the battle unless it's part of the campaign. So I usually just stick with the campaign.
Back in the day me and 7 buddies would play M2 custom battles, 4 on 4 using LAN.
the game would always crash when we had a regular computer as the host, eventually we started using a large server in telecommunication building at school as the host and that worked.
It was epic, 13K men on one screen. I think my all time best gaming memory is when in a 4 on 4 that started out with a total of over 13K soldiers (160 units) ended with just 6 of my men "winning the battle". Everyone else dead or routed.
I play custom battles whenever I want to see a lot of dakka I don't usually see (or would want). In ETW: DMUC, I often end up starting a custom battle where all I have is artillery versus the weakest units I can go up against.
I'm reinstalling Empire and hopefully I'll get to screw around with the Tsar Cannons tonight before jumping into Campaign.
Sometimes, but mostly with RTW when I try to create a historical battle out of it. Last time, I tried to set up the battle between Cataline's revolutionaries and the Roman forces in 62BC, but I couldn't launch the custom battle.
Rarely to the point of never. When I get a new Total War game I like to create as many opposing armies as possible, all armed to the teeth with the maximum amount of the weakest unit.
