Most of the units here at civfanatics are released without buttons. There are plenty of tutorials on the mechanics of making a button: that's fine. But rather than hunting for an image on the internet that approximates the unit in question, I would like to take the art direct from the unit itself. Is there an easy to do this?

2 methods I've considered so far:

1. Taking a screenshot from Civilopedia

problems with this - can't zoom the pedia scene

2. Taking a screenshot from within Sceneviewer

problems with this - can't pose the unit, it's just in an 'X' pose

Any suggestions?

Snap it in NifScope after you've attached an animation.

Yep, I've just found it under spells. Originally, I thought it had to be a .kfm and so didn't realise that it could be individual .kf's, cheers.

You can just take a screenshot of the unit in game, then rescale and cut it until you get a button sized dds. And in fact you can zoom the pedia scene, in a way--thats what iScale in UnitArtInfos does.

Have you tried hovering over the frame, holding the middle button and moving up and down? That zooms the scene in and out for me.

Took me a while to figure this one out. Yes, I can hold down the scroll wheel and move the whole mouse to move. Still not great though - I can't vary the angle, so it just zooms to the guy's crotch (rather than his face).

EDIT: Aha! I can hold down the right mouse button and move the whole mouse in order to raise the camera! Learn something new everyday!
