If you want to create a save file that does not have the flags for these premium DLCs, move the fold for that DLC to another location. The path is "\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\DLC". Here you will find folders labeled "DLC_01", "DLC_02","Shared", etc. In my installation, the folder "DLC_02" is the Spain/Inca DLC. I can tell this because there's a file inside it called "SpainInca.Civ5Pkg". This means I need to move the "DLC_02" folder to someplace else. I usually move it to the "Documents" folder which is also on a different hard drive.

As long as you already have Steam running, you do not have to be in offline mode, after moving the DLC's folder, to create the saved game without the premium DLC's flag being included in the saved game file. You also won't be able to load any games requiring that DLC, since the game thinks you do not have it, which is a good way of knowing you moved the file to a good location in order to "hide" it from the game.

Steps with pictures.
  1. Launch Steam so you don't have to be in offline mode for this to work. If you launch Steam after moving the folder, Steam will likely try to reinstall it.
  2. Locate DLC folder.

  3. Determine which premium DLC to move.

  4. Create a folder in your Documents folder to move the DLC folder to.

  5. Cut the DLC folder from its original location and paste it into the new location.

  6. Lunch the game, go to load screen and check a previously saved game to see if you can load it. This is what you should see if you've followed the steps correctly.

  7. You can verify which DLCs the saved game requires by clicking the DLC text in the load window, like this.

Moderator Action: Moved to tutorials and references.

...er...okay guys, i have no real ideas for what this is needed, and therefore no real idea in which forum it belongs to, tutorials is the best fitting for me.
If someone could explain me the purpose and the intention, and if someone has an advice where to put it, then i'll take it.

Oh, and i guess this sounded rather negative, this is not the case. I appreciate everyones work for civ5, so also this one here :goodjob: (i'm just confused).

Player A wants to share his game with other forum members.
Player B downloads Player A's save and gets a DLC error.
Player B is sad.
Player A doesn't get much comment about his game.
Player A is sad.

This thread tells how to solve this problem. I recommend that you move it to a forum with lots of shared games and sticky it. :D

The point is, the dev team's idea of "fixing" DLC incompatibility was to flag the map with all the currently installed DLCs at the time the map is generated, even if none of the civs from that DLC is included.

Example:
I have the Spain/Inca premium DLC installed. I want to start a game for HoF Gauntlet Beta 7 where I'm not allowed to have Spain, Inca, nor Babylon. I manually select all the civs to ensure Spain and Inca do not appear. Since I don't own the Babylon DLC, it's a non-issue, this time. I play the game and submit it to the after action thread for this Gauntlet. Now if anyone attempts to load the game that does not own the Spain/Inca DLC, the game will prevent them from doing so and this may cause my submission to be rejected on the grounds that it included this DLC, even though these civs are not actually in the game.

Anyway, this guide doesn't really have much to do with Mods. It's primarily dealing with the the DLCs we either purchased (Spain/Inca, Babylon and possibly the official Map packs) or got free (Mongolia).

Okay, i get the problem, but i thought that problem was patched out, at least for babylon, that players can load the "DLC saves" with no DLC present .

 either succession games subforum, or here (due to mapmaking).
Will have to think more about it, comments are still welcome.

Actually, this really should be over in the HoF forum, since this has nothing to do with mods and everything to do with not having the premium DLCs installed in order to participate in the Hof games and Gauntlets.

Hmm my CIV V folder doesnt have such, where That might be (search doesnt find it either and Steam folder didnt look like having i)?

Just got BNW installed and Id still like to hit original too...

Any good ideas, Id appreciate them.

Edit: Found it after digging steam help files, don't know why search didn't find civV folder in that (E:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets)

And also didn't check DLC main menu page on the game (cos I bumped into this article first) but there is also possibility to cross over DLCs)
