HQ1 Succession Game: For the glory of Greece (OPEN GAME)

Perfect timing guys, I just got home about an hour ago from my vacation  . I'm actually quite awake, slept a LOT on the plane (almost 3 hours, I think  ). So I'll go ahead and play it, I'll have everything posted within an hour or so.

Well, my turn was once again nice and peaceful (surprise, surprise ;) ), just building infrastructure and a few Knights here and there. Here's a timeline, though not much happened...

880 AD: Before annoucing his official retirement from the Greek throne, King Leonidas III announced his heir, the son of a very close family friend, Lord Artemis. Only 17 years old at the time, Artemis was the youngest of all Greek rulers thusfar. A pacifist and perfectionist, Artemis set to work on improving Greece's infrastructure and military.

890-940 AD: Told you it wasn't very exciting :crazyeyes , just worker activity, some buildings constructed, etc.

950 AD: Engineering is discovered, as wished by King Leonidas. From his throne in Athens, Artemis sets his scholars on an ambitious quest to discover "Invention". Elsewhere, in Delphi, General Balk, King Artemis' Military Advisor rejoices as the trade routes to the Iron deposits have been established; allowing Balk to oversee the training of Knights, powerful warriors who rode on horseback.

980 AD: King Artemis, seeing a -3 gold/turn deficit is quite disturbed at the sight. Reluctant to lower Science funding, he scours the Empire in search of a new source of gold. Suddenly his
Foreign advisor approaches him with a cunning proposal. Before long, Artemis rode, by horseback, towards the Babylonian capital of Babylon, where the two leaders met. King Artemis demands to renegotiate the current Peace treaty, and proposes that Babylon pay 20 gold to Greece, in exchange for a continued Peace. Seeing Artemis' soberness and determination, Hamburrabi quickly, and wisely, gives in to the demand.

1020 AD: After the death of his only son (skipped some years here, didn't we ;) ?), Artemis was plunged into deep madness and depression. The once wise leader of Greece clenched the lands with an iron fist that let nothing out of its grasp. Luckily, the nobles organized a secretive meeting in Sparta and forced the crazy :crazyeyes Artemis into exile. Soonafter they announced a new ruler. His name is.....(for the next player to decide :) )

- I'm researching Invention to get Leonardo's Workshop, we have many many horseman and Hoplites who will need upgrading, so make sure to get this wonder before anyone else does!!

- After Invention, there are basically two roads that I would suggest taking. Either develop gunpowder (thus getting Musketmen) or push for getting Navigation. The sooner we can get ships (that are immune to sinking in the ocean), the sooner we can discover other continents, civilizations, etc.

- By pressing F9 (I think), I brought up the Top 5 cities. The Iroquois have 3 wonders in one of their cities---Oracle, Hanging Gardens, and something else...I think. It looks like they are quite powerful and will be a close rival  .

- This has absolutely nothing to do with strategy, but who else thinks that the continent which we share with the Babs looks extremely similar to England (look at the Minimap, it seriously does to me!) ;) .

Anyways, here's the game...

sorry, i forgot to play my turn (hockey yesterday :))... I can't play tonight - 1st opporunity will be tomorrow night. If you all wanna jump in go ahead. sorry.

Welcome back Harleqin. Exsanguination, you take your turn, I'm up in another game, and don't really have time to do 2 sgs. I can wait.

Skip me this turn. I've got 2 days to right an essay, and I don't have any time to play civ3. :( Once my turn comes up again, I should be alright.

thought i posted this already -

I can ONLY play on weekends due to severe time restraints. If that it too troublesome, I'll just drop the game, but I'd still like to play.

Whoops. I didn't see that. It is no problem with me. Shall I take the turn or do you want to keep it as it is weekend now? :) I'd like to keep you onboard and I'm a little pressed for time right now, but should be able to slot it in.

Well, is someone going to take it up? I assume that would be Harlequin?

And knowing my luck, my turn will come around when I've got assignments to do.

I'm at work right now, but I'll pick it up when I get home. I have a meeting in half an hour, but should be home in about 3-4 hours. Then I'll get my turns on the way. Expect a summary in 6-7 hours.

This was some very uneventful turns. I do not like the fact that we appear to be lagging behind.
I concentrated on building knights for the coming war and placed them in border towns. We need to build up 20-25 knights and then start by taking out the Babylonian pockets before pushing up into their homelands. This way we can avoid a four-front war.
We have also completed Sun Tzus Academy meaning all new units will now be veteran. Theology has just been researced meaning no beakers have been spent on new sciences.
I recommend we continue to build our forces as we are weak compared to the Babylonians. Most of their forces are Bowmen though, meaning we have quality instead of quantity.

And the save:

Yeah, our Knights can probably rip through their Bowmen defenses without many casualties, it's Pikeman that I'm worried about however. We might want to pillage their iron soon after going to war. ;)

Only other problem is attacking their bowmen will give em a Golden Age of their own, meaning they can mass-produce them, unlike us (damn those Japanese  !!)

Anyways, should we be sucessful in eradicating the Babs (or weaken them so much they prove no threat whatsoever to us), we can probably disband some of our more outdated units and switch from Monarchy :king: to Republic! :goodjob:

Sounds good. It's my experience that the Babs build bowmen like it's going out of style, so I expect we'll get to see about 40 of the annoying things.

I say we strike their most productive areas first. Have some units near the other cities, to strike any units who happen to wander by ;), and take out their ability to mass produce bowmen.

btw, they will only get a golden age if their bowmen actually win a battle. Which I hope they won't. :D
