No, lurker comments are good.

I generally don't like to mess around with the Lux slider.

lurker's comment: You must learn how to control the lux slider. :shake:

its a really useful tool. :)

lurker's comment: As Ansar has suggested the lux slider is your friend. There's also nothing wrong with turning a few citizens into taxmen or scientists rather than moving the slider for all the cities. Your core cities are the ones you crank the slider for.

I first off apologise in the utmost for taking so long to get back to you on this..

250AD: Najrahn falls, and I start moving troops all over to capture what i can.
260:
270:
280: Damascus, Basra fall to my feet. I am doin' good, and I figure I may as well go for some Mecca.
290:
300: Mecca Falls
310: Due to civil unrest, I decide to go for Peace. In my peace negotiations, I was trying to milk as much out of him as I could, and there was ONLY one city that he would allow me to have in the negotiations. This city was "Medina". I took it. Woohoo! It has Insence near it. Take one of the subjugated Mecca workers and send him to it
320:
330: Colony for insense formed. Sending workers to Medina to try to get the production output forgetting a temple faster. Once we can get that temple, the insence is ours indefinitely.
340: all troops on our island strt moving to Coast Town of Fun. Do with them what you will.

Our glorious empire....:

What do we do from here, oh great Kuli?

Got it.

Please note that since we are Scientific, Libraries are cheaper than Temples. If the Temple is purely for the purpose of border expansion, then you should build a Library instead.

Good job on the war. Getting Medina and its Incense was a great success for us.

I will build up for war against Korea. I want to attack them because they are our biggest rival in terms of technology. If we can knock them down, then we should easily be the world leader in technology.

I think I will build up troops in both Arabia, and in our colony of Far Away Land. That way, we can make a two-front attack against Korea.

By the way, are the Dutch still at war with Arabia? If so, I fear we may have damaged our reputation by violating our military alliance with them.

I do not know. I jsut sort of withdrew. I figured revolts in ALL of our towns wasn't worth it...

I figurd we'd want a temple for cheapness sake, but okay, we'll go with a library. All good.

We have LOTs of troops to build up with. They're all in Coast Town of Fun.

Medina was lucky, and the war was a bit more of a success than either of us really expected..

Good luck with your turns!

Well, it couldn't be helped because of the war weariness. In retrospect, making the alliance with Netherlands at all was a mistake. I am to blame for it.

On with my turns.

====================

Pre-turn: Change build orders. We don't need Cathedrals or Colosseums. Nearly ever city is now working on Marketplaces. When they are done, I will focus on military.
Trade Ivory and 2 gold per turn to Russia for Gems.
Turn Luxury slider down to 0%.

7 - 420 Rush-build the Library at Medina in order to get it sooner.

8 - 430 Netherlands and Arabia sign peace treaty.

9 - 440 Learn Invention. Begin research on Chivalry.

10 - 450

11 - 460

12 - 470

13 - 480 Sign Right of Passage with Arabs. This is necessary in order to move our army through their territory in order to reach Korea.

14 - 490 Establish embassy in Korea just to see what their defenses are like. Their capital has one Pikeman and three Spearmen. If most of their troops are still Spearmen, this might not be too difficult.
I also note that they have three luxuries, though one of them is Incense, which we already have. We could possibly gain two luxuries by attacking them.

15 - 500

16 - 510 Army departs from Medina, and heads toward the Korean town of Inch'on.

17 - 520

18 - 530 Learn Chivalry. Begin research on Theology.
Rome lands a Spearman in our Arabian territories. It looks like they will try to sneak-attack us.
Declare war on Korea. Our army marches on Inch'on.

19 - 540 Rome declares war on us. I easily kill the meager forces they attacked us with.
Inch'on is captured, along with the Silk resource in its territory. Most excellent.

20 - 550 Renew our Gems trade with Russia. I have to throw in 120g more to keep the deal going, however.
Trade Engineering and Literature to Inca for Theology. Begin research on Education.

Notes: Keep the army together, and just attack one city at a time. Be sure to bring the Trebuchets along.
Our biggest priority is finding and capturing the Korean city with that other luxury in it. After that, just deal as much damage to Korea as possible.

The war with Rome is good. Since they started it, we actually get war happiness from it. Keep that war going as long as possible. Rome offers no threat to us.

I'm on the turns right now: are you SURE we have some sort of chance against Korea? I'm trying to invade and am making no progress. Will retry in like half an hour..

EDIT:

Okay, I tired, but in those ten turnd I was barely able to capture Taejon. In my frustration, I did not save.

Can you give me any more SPECIFIC ideas how to deal with this to perhaps be more successful? Not only are we outnumbered, but they have the same techs as we do, and it's rather frustrtion that even that one town is tenuous.

Should I just declare peace with them?

Here's my point of standoff, at 600 AD.

I played 5 shadow turns. It's up to you whether you'd like me to post it.

I can't give you any specific ideas, unless you give me any specific examples of problems.

I can say this: The AI will likely have the advantage of numbers at first. You need to stay on the defensive at first and let them come at you. Go on the offensive after you have thinned their numbers. If you never got any farther than Inch'on on your turns, that is acceptable.
You might try re-playing your turns with that attitude in mind.

Whomp, I wouldn't mind if you posted your shadow turns. It could be instructive.

OK I will post inside of spoiler tags.

I will illustrate my turns through pictures. I think that will give a better view of my thought process.

Taejon is taken!!! With the help from trebuchets we destroy two buildings and knock the population back by 1 to 5. This will reduce the cities defenses. The warriors are easy cannon fodder and we whack the elite MI as well. Good ratios.

Time to move on Pusan! You can also see we are leaving wounded and reinforcements continue to pile into Inch'on. Inch'on is being starved and producing sceintists. No foreigners here.

At the end I am able to get education in two more turns. This will be good trading fodder with Cathy if she finds some new tech to trade. The key to my success was using the terrain and odds to my advantage. There's no reason to attack a pike on open field. They have no attack capability. Taking LB's, warriors and MI on defense are much easier since the best they can do is defend at 2. Use your offensive capability to exploit this. Use Pikes as your cannon fodder for absorbing any attacks and buchets for plinging their attack. This helped me on multiple attacks. I believe I was 25-3 over the 5 turns. Through patience and planning I was able to eliminate any counteroffensive the Koreans could throw at me. In turn, with those odds it is likely there would not be a need to adjust the lux slider anytime soon and with the elite wins a MGL could have been produced soon. Have fun!
Here's my save at the end of 600.
