I started my England game today. I have never before played as them (or anyone else other than the Byzantine Empire) so i did not know what i was supposed to do. Anyway it is now 1415 and i have just signed peace with the Scandinavian powers who were allied to Scotland, annexing the latter.
Now i only have one Norwegian-controlled island to gain so as to form the british isles :)

Tips for playing as this country would be helpful. When do i realistically start colonizing the New World? I plan to have all areas historically in the empire during its peak. Thatmeans i am not interested in French territory at all.

Also, note the successful for the time being Byzantine Empire. I do not have random lucky nations so i am not sure what happened there, but they were extremely aggressive from the start...

Britain's peak comes after EU3's end date.

Ouch, what could have been a really valuable ally against France is not looking very good there.

I prefer to start colonizing as soon as possible. And this is as soon as I reach trade tech 7. But I do only colonize when playing small trading countries where I can afford to switch to Quest for the New World just to hire an explorer and establish a colony on the Azores or any other island in the west and then switch back to a more useful idea until I get a core there.

If playing a rather big country with actual costs for stability you could maybe wait for one of those advisor events which give 2 stability. Or you could wait until your second or third national idea to get to the North American mainland directly. But I do not know how far away those provinces are in terms of colonial range and which naval tech level you would need.

Do you really need Orkney to form Great Britain? With cores on (and control of) your starting provinces and Lothian and Aberdeen the conditions should be fulfilled.

Oh, and the Byzantines take some provinces in Anatolia in the beginning more often than not. But they will probably lose them to the Ottomans anyway.

Conquer greece & raze it to the ground.

There's always the Ottomans to do that!

DESTROY FRANCE!

I have seen at least one Nation from every Cultural Group in Europe+North Africa+Near East take a whole bunch of Ottoman Territories in Western Anatolia and Greece.

Swedes, French, Spanish, Italians, Greeks, Russians, Poles, Arabs, Persians, Mongols, English, Germans, Freaking Georgia, Serbs, Hungarians and Dutch.

No wait. I have never seen an Irishmen or Breton take it before.

In my current Naples-Italy game, the Ottomans are currently being occupied by 4 ( I think it's 4) countries. Oh, and the Timurid Empire stretches from Persia, to far-east Asia, and has borders with China.

So, you could avoid conquering the Ottomans b/c if they don't expand, then they get invaded.

How the hell did you conquer all of Ireland and Scotland in just fifteen years??

Well i am used to playing as the Byzantines, so this was done in my sleep ;)

Long story short: Immediately signed peace with France, immediately (almost) declared on Scotland and took three provinces. Then immediately declared on the Irish nations and annexed them. Finally, when the truce was up and i had some degree of stability and not pitiful war exhaustion i declared again on Scotland and annexed them in less than one year.
