I am the best civ 2 player ever!

Shadowdale, Indorin, Starlifter, Toczynski or whoever. who cares? before i make my opinion i would check out the rules.txt they are playing with.

there are probably also some very good players who don't post in internet forums. But they're probably not the best because they don't (and can't) know as much about Civ 2 as players who do post on forums.

The world's best civ2-players are IMHO samson and solo. Need not to say why.

They may be the creme de la creme of SP and have contributed a lot to the GL. But personaly I would like to see how those guys stand up in an MP game where you play against people who actualy learn from their mistakes.

I would love to test their skills in MP though :)

Well, well, well...
I guess there is a champion who does not stays in the forum to discuss his title, just like our indian friend just said some posts ago.

I am not going to say I am a great champion myself - Once I won a lot of times I started to play the game not to be the supreme world power, or to arrive first anywhere. I started games like "let´s see what happens if I play with only 3 cities in the Ireland island", "play Europe.map by starting in the small amount of land in America", etc. (I wrote a post about that, but my browser went mad and destroyed it. I will re-do it someday).

Champion of overpower. It´s the kind of thhing I believe to be very very silly. The game is supposed to be fun, not some kind of obessive competition. And what does a man earns by entering a forum just to be provocative to other people?

I agree with the indian about the disappearing of the "champion", and agree with other people who say the criteria for choosing a champion can be a lot of things. And I agree with Tim The Enchanter for his choice of signature, photo and username.

Tim, just never forget to say NI!

atawa,
many SP players (not only me, :) samson and solo probably too) like SP because they have enough of time to think.
So I think you might persuade them for a PBEM rather than MP.

i've only ever had the chance to play one multiplayer game - a match against a friend, and several AI civs. I won it, landing a spaceship in the mid 1900s, but it was a tough battle - whenever one of us got too far ahead, the other would launch a sneaky attack, and a bloody war would result... I eventually got the upper hand by stockpiling tens and tens of howitzers, and jsut blitzing her so she couldn't possibly build a spaceship as quickly as me :)
