I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

Got it. I plan on dealing with the English and starting a railroad net. I'm thinking of concentrating on our major cities and the main launch point for reinforcements being shipped over the Channel. The rest of the empire will probably have to wait. The first part of the plan, dealing with the English, mainly depends on what they decide to throw at us. It could get ugly for a while if we can't hold onto Germany in the first couple of turns. If it looks like we're going to lose some cities, I will abandon whatever can't be held and focus our forces on what's most worth defending, with an eye on force preservation first and territory second.

1.1255. Wow, we are not prepared for England. Our army on the continent is far to the East. The West is fragile, and Koningsberg is in a hopeless position. Sell barcaks for 10g and abandon the town, sending its pike+mdi into the mountains. Start bringing cavs and muskets to the coast for shipment. On the diplomatic front, noone will take GPT from us. Sell salt to Sumer for 26GPT, sell WM all around, lux to 0%, MM cities for happiness, hiring scientists wherever necessary.

IT. Kill 1 cav, ships dump rifles, cavs, longbows everywhere. The English really like amphibious landings. Must be the undefended cities we have on the mainland. That's ok, we have Sessn's Slayers and Apple Bringer armies to help out. Much better than if they decide to atack Berlin, for example, because that would break our island holdings in half.

2.1260. Kill 5 rifles, 1 horseman. Our artillery is a great asset, as is our 1st English Army.

IT. Lose knight, kill rifle and longbow. English land on mainland and next to Berlin. Uh-oh. Not much there.

3.1265. Applebringer mops up mainland landings. 1st English Army pillages, kills an inf, fortifies with our arty on a hill. 2nd English Army pillages as well. We kill 4 infantry, 2 cavs. Upgrade caravels for better defenses and carrying capacity. Lose 2 cavs counterattacking out of Berlin. No arty, everything is in English territory.

IT. English attack ferociously. We lose 2 pikes, mdi, cav. We need more muskets on the island. Rifles would be so, so nice. English land more Apple Bringer bait.

4.1270. Upgrade 2 cats, Apple Bringer does his business. Some cavs help out and we mop up 1 cav, 1 rifle, 1 longbow. Kill 2 cavs and 1 rifle on German soil.

IT. Lose 1 musket, English troops land next to Berlin again. Palace expands. USA completes Universal Suffrage.

5.1275. Kill 2 rifles, mdi, 2 cavs, and a leader emerges! He forms an army and heads West to German Salts. Blockade Nottingham with 2 caravels. The English are using their whole navy to ferry troops and protect troop carriers, so they are ignoring our ships completely. Use this fact to block their harbors with cheap caravels. We can't prouce fast enough to fill all of them, anyway. And we shouldn't have to, the English are not making any progress and we are gaining strength on the island. However, WW is kicking in. Much MM is needed to keep cities content.

IT. English land 4 troops in Apple Bringer's lap. Sessn's Slayers come closer to the action but still close enough to the NW in case England lands something there. A few cavs are also camped out on the NW coast, just in case. Lose 1 musket on island.

6.1280. Kill 3 rifles, 3 cavs, 1 musket, 1 longbow, and another leader pops out! We have 4 armies on the island now.

IT. Kill longbow, English again land next to Berlin, keeping us too spread out for my comfort. Not enough troops to siege a city. Will send armies out to pillage now that the German towns can more or less handle themselves.

7.1285. Capture Oxford (built next to ruins of Konigsberg) killing a total of 8 rifles, 1 musket, and 1 cav on the island. Lose 2 cavs in the process.

IT. Luck turns, and we lose 1 elite knight, 1 pike, and an empty army waiting for troops next to German Salts. That was dumb. Next time, I'll leave it in the town. One pike was not a big enough deterrent.

8.1290. Learn Steam, start on Nationalism. We have 3 coals connected and 1 unconnected. Monopoly on coal??? Kill 4 cavs including the army-killing bastard. 1 army is pillaging, others are healing and preparing to head for London.

IT. Quiet. No landings. Hoping they are gassed.

9.1295. Sell Coal to Sumer for 11 GPT, to USA for 32 GPT. Sell Silks and Fur to USA for 51 GPT. Gift Iron to Babs. Our economy is pitiful. I've been building universities in big cities to help out research, and temples in border towns. Hopefully we can flip the Sumerian town in the NW. Workers are scattered and completing a lot of jungle chops, so not enough were ready to start putting down a rail net. Slowly teams are coming together. Kill 2 rifles. England is getting quiet.

IT. Spoke to soon! We lose 1 pike and 1 cav, killing 1 cav.

10.1300. Kill 2 cavs, but misclick and expose elite cav to certain demise. Armies pillage like mad, and now the English have no salts and no dies. Hopefullt this killed some of their trades as well. We have 3 strong cavalry armies on the island, 1 still has room for a cav. I've been waiting for an elite to do his business before joining him in, but we don't really need more leaders so that was probably not a wise choice. Anyway, England is on its way down. A few more turns, and an army+cannon stack will reach London. In the meantime, we have 2 other armies running around in circles, pillaging everything in sight. The only real strategic stumble was that not enough workers are ready to put down rails. This will slow down troops movement.

LOL @ Microbe

That was good :)

I went for Nationalism because I figured we wanted to mobilize, plus it's a prerequisite for Espionage. There's hardly any beakers invested, so a change won't hurt us.

Actually, we're not making enough money to do any tech stealing, so maybe we should revolt before doing anything else? Selling the coal and luxuries helped a bit - until Microbe gave away the last coal :) but our income is still pathetic considering how large our empire is. It's been a long time since I saw a Monarchy this late in the game. The constant warfare is a real drag on our development.

LOL

But the thing about our Apple is that he is much to original to do that... he always thinks of something new :)

ummmmmmmm, just saw your a player short on the sg registry? just wondered if thats wayyyy old or still viable?

@the mole: as sesn is on autoskip we are still one player short, though I am not sure this game is really alive anymore. I am the last of the original roster besides microbe, who play the bad apple. As the founder is gone too I just take over and say you may join. Just want to hear from you that you know this is a deity game a you are up to it.

Detlef - on deck
grs
danz - just played
the mole
Sesn - autoskip
Pegleg - up

blimey, didn't realise it was diety. I will play you want, especially when its in a realatively easy phase, and maybe i should skip some harder turns?

ill probably stay out then, sorry to bother you. mut my playing will just bother you even more :D

lurker's comment: Well I would... but I don't have Conquests. Damn shame though I was really enjoying reading how the bad apple changed the game.. You are truly evil Microbe.

Sorry for not posting for so long. I'am running out of time, too much staff at work. If you can wait another two days, i can say 'got it'. So i try to post on Thursday.

I'm here, and can take it as soon as Detlef does his magic.

I really want to see another Microbe play before this thing is over :)
