I can't win on prince...

Thanks for the constructive advice Maxym - after I finish my current game, I'll play a few where I focus on growth/science a tad more than production and see how it goes. I've got to at least try it before I can deride it, don't I? :)

Yet again I will repeat that growth is a strong player, but not with equal or at least partially equal production. Do me a favor cause I cant load games right now and therefore I don't keep saves. Start a map with settings to get it all as flat and jungly as possible. Then cut down all those jungles and make them TP. Then start a game doing the opposite (hills) and then tell me on can work without the other.

EDIT: I changed my entire strategy in MP games, when I found out about ToA, but even with that you need a good production base.

But why would I do that? Chop jungle to build TP? I have not built one not in jungle for ages. I think we will argue in circles. All I am saying on a normal map where there is a mix of tiles, prioritize growth and science and the rest will come.

Speedrwriting :D I meant farms

I agree that food should be a priority but without a decent hammer output (three to five hills, in any ring), a city will only produce science and gold, buildings, units and structures will take forever.

you're bonkers if you chop jungle to create farms. What's the point of farms? Food. What's the point of food? Population. What's the point of population? One could argue production (IE working more tiles) but at the end of the day it's science, and 2 base beakers per jungle with a university (more if you work the rationalism tree) is worth a heck of a lot more than a farm, in my opinion.

The key to winning games is long term gains and science. Do more with less by specializing your cities, getting key sciences like fertilizer, chemistry, civil service, etc, and getting to the buildings/units you want quickly by maximizing your science.

You don't need to chop jungle to plant TPs. The base tile yield for most Jungle-hexes is 2 :c5food: (+2 :c5science: if you have a Univ in the city working the hex). Build a TP on top of the Jungle to add +2 :c5gold: (after discovering Economics, I believe) for each Jungle tile. Then you receive 2 :c5food:, 2 :c5gold:, and you still retain the 2 :c5science:

Yes i think we came to an agreement, food and growth are priority unless you have too much of good thing, like a full grassland cap in which case production becomes at premium and should be prioritized over growth. But it kind of happens on it's own since on a flat grassland with rivers or some jungles growth takes care of itself and you can chase production. And don't build unis, schools and labs in cap even if you have production, rush buy them instead. Best bang for your buck apart from getting AIs to fight each other.
