Strange bug.
My log shows I declared war against Justinin but I didn't do it.

I've search the forums, and found a few possible explanations, but none seem to apply to my situation.

I have 1 vassal and no Defensive Pacts (other than vassal).

It clearly says I declared the war. and I get a -3 relations w/ justinin penalty for declaring and -1 with some other civs.

The log file clearly says I declared on Justinin, and then My vassal declared on him. So it wasn't Justinin declaring on my vassal, dragging me into war.

Other Possibilities I saw were AP resolution ((of which I'm not a member) could have somehow caused me to declare on him. but then I think it would drag all members of the AP against me, and I'm only at war with Justinin and no one else.

I saw someone mention submarines, can they drag you into a war? I didn't have any, but justinin surely did as they started wiping out my fisharies right after the declaration.

Also is it possible the AI Justinin received a special event that triggered me declaring on him? is that possible?

can't think of anything else. but would like to know if it's a bug or not.

thanks

Attach your save file from that game so the mods can take a look (makes it WAY easier to figure out if it's a bug, what caused it, how to fix it, etc).

well it's a gotm so will have to wait a couple weeks before I post the save file.

This looks like the colony issue.... Did you or Justinian founded a colony? ( There is a bug in the 3.13 patch that makes sometimes colonies assume a dead civ stats, like culture and diplo standings ( including wars ) )

The solution is to install the Bhruic's patch , that you can find in the parent forum of this one stickied on top ( "Unoficial patch...."

There is also an event what triggers AI war on you it is the wedding and when you choose the third option. I don't know if AI can use it against you or not.

Same here! In my first game with the new patch, I've been informed I just declared war on Asoka

Please check the save file. New patch, no mods.

It could be one of Solver's random events:

Event162
Spy Discovered
Prereq: INDUSTRIALISM and contact with another player AND at least 4 cities AND Capital
Obsolete: ROBOTICS
Active/Weight: 60/100
Result:
1.gain 400 Espionage points AND mutual +2 Attitude modifier with other player
2.pay gold (300 base) AND gain 1 Great Spy unit
3.declare war on other player AND gain free unit support for 20 units AND +1 happy face for 30 turns AND 1 Tank unit for every 4 cities

I was hit with it last game when I couldn't figure out why I declared war. I kept sabotaging Pericles' oil well and after one of my spies was caught, I declared war mysteriously. We both had Industrialism-although I am not sure if the requirement is the player who caught the spy had to have Industrialism or if both players need Industrialism.

Ori, are you sure of that? I had this occur to me as I described and the AI must have had the choices because I declared war IBT on Pericles. And I didn't want to declare war since I was turtling up and going for cultural victory.

I was not clear enough.
there are events that cause someone else to declare war on the player that triggers the event. So this could be the cause - however there are two things that are supposed to happen:
1) a message is displayed for every event - even one that other players have in the message log
2) there is a popup that asks you whether you want to declare war - this does not occur for the AI - in that case its simply a roll of dice...
now: there is a possibility that the second is bugged - and the popup does not always fire, however the text for 1) is definitely in the code - and there is no reason why it should not be logged while all other event texts are...
So I doubt that this would cause you to declare war without leaving a trace in the log. Now if that happens a save - preferably from before the DOW (e.g. an autosave) would be handy. Of course the default autosave every 4 turns does not always allow this...
