played all of the civs from 1-5 happily, well admittedly 5 i wasnt so confident with, but i could win games.

now, without sounding like i should be on a medical forum, i cant finish games off.

only playing on warlord, just played one long game until about 2050 when i must have won a points win but didnt really notice. i was by my last save on a big map with 9 other nations playing russia, and leading the science 68 to 54 next nation. tourism 454 per turn v 260. domination score 914 versus 445 and 3rd in religion, which i was amazed at since i didnt manage to make a religion.

but i was alone on an island, and by the time i could reach other players, war was difficult because of weariness and other countries crap repeated peace treaties. i figured my science would get me to space but it didnt even though im so far ahead of the rest of them.

im starting again from my 4000bc map to see if i can do it better. think im generalising too much and trying to be 'better' overall rather than aiming specifically for science or domination and concentrating on it.

aye, you will actualy get a lot better the more turn you have in you. And learn how to get even more ahead with early civic like 100% bonus on campus and trick like this.

In some game you really want but 4-5 Tall cities that do all the conquering around ending with something like 5 settled city and 20 captured.

To do so you have to "babysit" your unit and make the most of them to acquire experience that lead in a snowballing army. Which in turn will result in "faster game" (let's say 5hours game instead of 8 :)

The most universal advice i could give would be to make sure you get your commerce districts up and running in all cities and try to get as many cities as possible. You will then end up bringing in hundreds of gold per turn which means you don't need the AI to trade with so you can DoW them all you want and build a large military in a few turns if the AI does, by some miracle, actually DoW you or you decide to DoW them and the AI is so poor at combat currently i often tend to end up DoWing multiple enemies at a time just for jollies.
You will also then have a large number of trade routes which you can use internally to boost product for things you can't buy like space ship parts.

Also for late game there are a couple of war weariness policies which reduce it to pretty much nothing to the extent in a recent game, using those policies, i conquered the last 5 remaining civs and don't remember a single war weariness.

Finally don't feel like you need to grow all your cities. I tend to have some core cities and then lots of little satellites just having enough pop to build the districts i want where 4 pop is often enough so you get your commercial district and then a harbour if near the coast for an extra trade route or a district to suit your victory plan and using all the trade routes you have to act as the production for those cities until the districts are built.

I'm confused by this. War was difficult because of weariness? It shouldn't be. If you're in mid to late game by the time you go across to wage war against them. you can probably use Causus Belli (sp?) to wage Holy, Terratorial, or Cononial war or something that doesn't bring too much War Weariness.

And what's this about other countries crap repeated peace treaties? You don't have to accept them. Just refuse them and keep warring.

On getting to space, you do know the steps required, right? You have to get Rocketry, and then build a spaceport, and then there are several more steps required.

I'm sure if you looked into the victories a bit more, you'd easily be able to get one of them.

If war weariness is bringing you down, try to build the Colosseum. No more amenities problems for almost the rest of the game (a single Zoo might do in the late game), it's fairly easy to find a place to build it (if you plan it beforehand) and not so competed over the AI.

I advise early aggression, even against CS, and filling out the map with your cities.
