I had 24 CDs. I stored them in a large case that can hold up to 60. A bit of sand got into the case and damaged 11 of my CDs (putting little holes into them). I guess it's what I get for wasting my money.

i stick all my CD's onto Media Player, and take out the Album Art, and just leave my CD's on the shelf and never use them.
I don't need to use them cos i bought myelf a 20GB Creative Zen when i was in Andorra..
But still, hard luck..

Bad luck. No, you didn't really deserve it. What's with your tendency of putting yourself down?

Sand is bad for computers whether or not you have extra space. My old GameBoy managed nicely though...

Copy your CD's onto your hard drive in future then reburn them onto CD-W/RW, may sound like little comfort now, but always back up your data in two extra places, that's a lesson we all learn the hard way.

Bad luck Chukchi:(

A friend of mine had all his CD's on his hard drive, he obtained many of them from file sharing sites so they weren't entirely pukka, but he also burned all of his music onto cd's and spread coppies around, so that he could always retrieve his monumental hard drive collection at a stroke or several, if his hard drive spontaneously crashed and burned.

I did copy them on my hard drive before putting them in the case, but it's not the same.

I shouldn't have wasted my money on CDs.

How can sand ruin CDs? We the CDs out of their cases, and just in CD sleeves?

Still ... 11 CDs ... ouch, that's a lot.

Well, you could always download the music you lost. Technically it wouldn't be illegal since you legally purchased the CD's before they became damaged.

By the way, how do you get CD's if you never leave the house? Order them?

Have you ever considered playing instruments? Then you could make your own music? Hell, these days you don't even need instruments, just learn how to play with audio on your computer. You could even dub in wolf howls and nature sounds. :D

The old gameboy is like the AK-47. Stick it in sand and run over with a tank, will still be in working order, though still quite ugly X)

As for the thread: You don't deserve bad things to happen to you, Chukchi. Nobody does. Bad things just happen, they aren't directed at anyone for any reason (unless by humans, or stupidity, ie. building your house on sand..)

Edited a typo..

meh, you deserve it.. technology and beach dont mix.. though how on earth you manage to kill so many cds that way is beyond me... i doubt somehow this really happened.

Holes or scratches ?
you can repair the scratches using silicon polish material.

If you have a CD writer you can copy them off your hard drive and back to a CD, just keep those original CDs even though you can't play them.

At least you have a copy on your hard drive, I knew someone who bought a whole load of records (vinyl) and put them in the back seat of his car to drive home. Unfortunately it was hot and they all melted into a completely useless L shape to match the back and seat of the car seat. The shop wouldn't take them back as they said he had mistreated them. He had them in his room for ages as he couldn't bring himself to throw them away having spent so much on them. In the end he put the album sleeves on his wall and used some of the centre bits that weren't bent as coasters.

I have to know, I'll bite: how did sand get into the case if you never took it to the beach?
