It's for a few tests, so they took four tubes (about 5 cm long and 1 cm diametre) of blood. They're testing for heamoglobin and white blood cell count, blood sugar, plasma viscousity, CO2, liver function, immunity and some other things I forgot or couldn't hear.

congratulations!
It´s one small step for a mankind, one giant leap for you!

Congrats, I remembered I was a bit nervous when I had donated blood :).

Over here it's mandatory to make some blood tests (don't remember what exactly) at the age of 14.

Anyway, congrats. :)

One of those things I need to do. Need to double-check with my doctor that I'm actually able to though.

Good work to all that have done so already :goodjob:

I get tested every six months for lead as a result of my work.
what do you do Hero?

I hate getting blood taken ever since I was getting blood taken in hospital once and I got the junior doctor and he put the needle in at a wrong angle or something and it hit a nerve, so instinctly my arm spasmed and sprayed blood everywhere.

I hate needles, but I plan to give blood regularly when I get to uni.

I hate seeing needles and tubes being stuck in me, espescially in my veins  It hurts, I begin to blackout, and they need to learn to find the vein on the first flippin try.

ah, I never thought to look there :( sorry

last time I went to get blood taken it was for bad headaches, they done some tests and found out that my kidney and liver was out of wack and they wanted to do more tests in a month. they done more tests and said they want to do more tests in a month so I went back for a third time and they took some blood. by this point I went to see my actual doctor and I asked him about them and he just looked me in the eyes and said "it's not an anomoly, it's barely worth mentioning, and you're getting headaches cause your fat"

I love that guy heh :)

stocked full of everyones favourite nutrients-alcohol.

Ive given blood and probably will do again soon its just tough finding the time to do it.

over here in the UK the trick to having blood taken is to get an experianced nurse to do it, nothing worse than newly qualified doctor scraping around.
I have heamaphilla so when ever i brake a bone ect i need to have blood product injected into a vein and blood taken out for levels. the nures at my local hospital are brilliant at it, you hardly feel it atall.

Heh, last time I had blood tests, I really didn't want them. I work in the lab and didn't want to deal with the likely comments if my lipids were as high as I thought they might be.

Worst time was when I was in the army, and for some reason (which no doubt made sense at the time) I stopped by the lab to find out exactly how drunk I was one night coming back from the bar. Apparently, I said I didn't care if she posted the results, and when I came on duty the next afternoon there was the instrument printout labelled "Randy's BAT" right above the communications book, where everyone would be sure to see it. :)

Reminds me of my co-worker who had bruises all over her arm because they couldn't find the vein...

I don't like needles.

Whenever someone sticks a needle in me, I feel like a druggie, due to some bizarre association in my mind.

I am not scared of needles however.

Oh man, you just reminded me that I was supposed to donate on July 8th. :(

I have to get back on the 2-month cycle with the regular donations. I just forget too easily on this 4-month cycle with the 2 red blood cell pack donation.

I had Encephalitis when I was 7, and between the daily blood tests and IVs that they had to move daily because of the inability to get a good hit, both of my arms were bruised up and down. Beats dying, though, so I don't complain.

Nurses are still unable to get a vein in my right arm, so I only donate blood from my left. Unfortunately, the vein they're using there is starting to take some damage, and they had a harder time getting the needle in last time, so I'm taking about a year off from donating in the hopes it improves the situation.

God, that makes me glad my vein is sticking out, even without a tourniquet on.
