I should give up on ever being a geek.

It's pretty bad when in school you're supposed to be filming somehting and you FORGET TO TURN ON THE CAMERA.

Well anyways I guess I'll never be good. :( I guess I shouldn't try to help anymore, as it seems all my advice is useless.

Nah, you just have a lot to learn yet. Instead of getting Windows 7, you might want to invest in a good book about computer architecture, in order to build a proper foundation of knowledge for your geeky adventures.

learn to find information, and learn to love reading it. One of my favorite pasttimes is finding some article on tech and reading it. I used to do this a lot more because I dont have time anymore.

Pick up a book on programming, one of the best ways to learn how a computer works is to learn how to program it ( gotta make sure you use a book that actually explains all that though.)

And most of all, Google has made being a geek a lot easier, since a lot of info is now almost quite literally at your fingertips. Spend 15 minutes googling a question you have, and then if you cant find any info at all, ask elsewhere. And dont just look for info about random problems you have, if you get an interesting idea in your head, research it a bit. You may find that there's nothing quite like it out there, and that you're the first to come up with the next big thing.

Yeah, but if I can't even remember to turn on a video camera to film, I don't see how books are going to help much.

There's also the problem of loaded words and people just saying whatever they want to mean whatever they want.
Good rule:
Anyone can be a dork, or eventually prove herself a nerd, but one can only be a geek by consent of one's peers.

Just don't forget to open the book.

Don't let it get you down. If you're curious enough you will make a fine geekette.
I had a stroke a couple of years ago and can forget just about anything now. Sometimes my brain just misfires. I don't let it stop me though.

Oh for Pete's sake, I'm a professional geek and I forget to turn things on. I'd say I have a "why is this not working?" followed by a "oh I forgot to plug it in/turn it on/connect x to y/etc." at least once a week.

I suppose. Just that I'm type of person to get discouraged fast.

It's the Aspergers. Wanting to give up because you made a mistake. Don't worry about it. I'm a professional myself, and while I may not do it once a week, it certainly happens often enough.

Really, it's what you do with it that's important. If you learn from it, mission accomplished. If you down yourself because you made a little mistake...Well, might want to talk to someone about that.

The lesson from forgetting to turn on the camera is not to remember to turn on the camera. You already knew that. The lesson is that the first step in debugging is making sure everything is on.

It's normal- get over it! ;) You'll be fine. Geek up! (kinda like Man up! but since you aren't...)

I suppose a lot of it has to do with the fact I've never used the camera before, maybe.

funny thing is that the second time I tried filming, the camera had a faulty microphone. I know because the in-built one was working but the teacher wanted us to use the other ones, which were turned on. Then I tried plugging into the computer and it didnt work either, there. Later on the teacher opened it up and a cable was loose so he soldered it back into place and it works ok now.

About education, since normal college is a bit expensive, does anyone have experience with those study-at-home things? I once recieved a thing in the mail and it was pretty cheap, something like $2000 for the entire course. While regular college is real expensive, comparison.

COmmunity college. Im paying 300$/quarter (not counting books) for several classes.

You felt awkward / stressed in a social enviroment and forgot to turn the camera on ?
