So In my current game I'm on a continent with Monty, Qin, Charlemange and Hammurabi. Monty and Qin are my nieghbours and we all share the same religion except Hammy. Charler and Quin are my friends and monty keeps swaying from pleased to causious. I have joint top power with Monty.

Now. I got Monty to declare on Hammy - so Hammy don't like me - hoping this would draw his troops away from my land and also slow him and Hammy down. The thing is I want to stab monty in the back, I want to stab him up good, to repay all those past transgrestions of his and nick his lovely land and capital! Was sending him off to war a bad idea as he'll come back with some well promoted units or was it a good idea? Also Qin like to do a bit of the old stabby stabby. Should I worry about him (I think he likes me more than anyone else)?

Oh yer I'm playing as Mehemed, gotta love that UB.

Sure backstabbing monty might be a good idea. Most of his offensive troops will go towards hammy. Keep in mind that the AI aren't built very well to handle the babylonan UU though as they mostly turtle up with tons of archers or suicide tons of troops to take cities so monty probably won't be able to significantly harm hammurabi if this is early in the game. Quin will and can backstab anyone if he finds a good oportunity for it. It mostly depends on youw power rating and if you are close to him geographically i think. If you don't give him a chance to do it he won't. AI's in general sucks at war though so if you are enough prepared(your UU is killer) you should be able to slaughter anyone you fancy... What difficulty is this btw?

Noble. It is early too. Should I bee line gunpowder? Qin is pretty close. Its an good border to defend though - hills behind a river. Don't think he's got his UU yet - in fact its probably some way off - his Cho's are a killer.

So far I've got a load of CRI swords and some combat 1 axes, just starting to churn out some cats.

Provoking your neighbor into a war with another AI Civ, then backstabbing him a few turns later with your troops into his backyard is a staple diet of the warlord human player.

You can do it man!

Yep - wait 5 turns or so - enough time for Montys troops to not only move to the enemy AI but to attack him (and lose units + health), then pounce him from behind.

I love doing this sort of thing, when I'm able.

Well I got him good. Qin did his classic back stabing on me, but he didn't send any units my way so it wasn't a real problem in the end. I was great watching Monty go down. I took two wars and in the second he'd declared on Charler so i waited for the call for help and off I went again. This time Qin dog piled Monty with us. Bye bye Aztecs.

I think what made the biggest difference was that half way through attacking him I upgraded my already promoted swords to maces.
