I was born this way.

BTW, has this thread got Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" stuck in anyone else's head? Or is it just me?

I started humming Bad Romance to make it stop.

There's nothing wrong with what you feel, since feelings don't hurt anybody. What you choose to do about your feelings, though, is a different story.

That's exactly right. Nobody should be required to find homesexuality "normal" on a personal level. What we are required to do, as civilized people, is to accept other people's sexuality as they are and not deny them any rights we have.

I think the salient point here is that if homosexuals claim a genetic component that makes them what they are - hence "incurable" - then it's reasonable that heterosexuality, and possibly homophobia as well, also have such a genetic component.

And my former dislike of cottage cheese and tomatoes probably has a genetic competent. (Though maybe we should really be talking about epigenetic changes. Heck, an environmental change isn't necessarily reversible short of brainwashing.)

I sort of fell into being OK with cottage cheese and tomatoes as I got older, actually tried being around cottage cheese and tomatoes and discovered that they were basically just foods like other foods.

OTOH, I feel like I've always been male, hetero, and possessing 5 fingers on each hand. Two of those things are hardly *likely* to change without surgery or one sort or another. The other could, I suppose, but I've never had the least hint that it would or could.

So maybe the genetic component of some traits is more important than the genetic component of others? Maybe some traits are far more integral/invarient than others? Maybe, in other words, the OP is .

Oh, sure, it wouldn't surprise me if there's some genetic influence somewhere - though it's far more likely it's an tendency toward hostility or even insecurity, with homophobia being the particular form measured in the study.

The entire point of this is saying "I was born this way" isn't an excuse for one's behavior, and therefore people who support LGBT relationships can't use that as a rallying cry.

I'm entirely sure somebody is going to respond to this with something like "you're stupid, what do you care what other people do in the bedroom," thus missing the point entirely. Betcha.

I wish there was a "like" button:king:

Just... that article in the OP...

...and non-heterosexuals are less homophobic than heterosexuals.

Meh, still think they should be marginalized.

Side note. OP, I reject your defence. You cannot choose to use science when it's convenient to you. I'll grant you leeway on being a bigot when you accept that the earth ain't 6,000 years old.

Yeah, this is legit. The study is pretty interesting, although I'd like more info on how accurate its conclusions are. I'm not sure how much it implies if it is true. Even if people are predisposed to homophobia, that wouldn't justify being a dick. I'm genetically predisposed to seek and enjoy sex with women, but that wouldn't justify me being emotionally manipulative and promiscuous.

OK, does one choose to be a Homosexual?
Don't want to pick on you specifically, but did you choose to fall in love with or be sexually attracted to the women in your life? That sort of "decision" is inherently unconscious and can't be described as choice at all. And the gender barrier is not a magical line That Must Not Be Crossed in that regard.

Okay! We can make a deal. :) Agents of the Radical Militant Homosexual Agenda will stop telling you how to conduct your private affairs if you'll do the same for us. :deal:

Thank you for calling this out. :goodjob:

Yes, quite outstanding work.

Your mistake here is to know a Lady Gaga song. :mischief:

That's not a mistake. He's a former interrogator. How to effectively use Lady Gaga is probably the FIRST thing you learn in interrogator school.

Assuming that people use "I was born this way" as an excuse is assuming that there is something that needs to be excused. I believe the word you are looking for is explanation, which doesn't apply to the OP.

This may just be the funniest thing I've ever read in my life.

Only if being a bigot is as important as sexuality is.

Wth, is this april 1st already?

This is both lolsome and pathetic at the same time. Homophobia is a reflection of bad upbringing and the culture you reside in. Genetics has nothing to do with it. Look at Greek or Roman cultures past.

This is a real article in a journal. This is from the same guy who did the twin study about Homosexuality. Most people use that study for proof of Homosexuality being somewhat Genetic, so here is the other side of the argument, based on a study by the same guy. So if you are having problems with this study, you should be having with the author.

I might as well put the video up. :p The original video is a bit too weird to put here.

Link to video.

Being a bigot or holding bigoted views is a choice, being LGBT isn't.

You know there's a reason I brought up Lady Gaga's song, and it wasn't because I was trying to be funny.....

Fine, you don't have to like homosexuals. I for one dislike obese Australian creationists who rack up 24k+ postcounts.

What this doesn't mean is supporting the political and economic disenfranchisement of obese Australian creationists, nor the normalisation of their beatings and murders.

Your argument becomes 80% less credible when you insult people.
