IAEA, ElBaradei win Nobel peace prize

i do not think that the world is ready for the end of nuclear weapons. As things are atm if nuclear weapons just dissappeared we would have wars in many places, in larger scale. I doubt that they will stop being around, ever, but hopefully they will never be used again.

Although, can we point to a success by the IAEA in preventing a country from getting (or keeping) nuclear weapons?

Give that the IAEA was responsible for the inspections regime that left Americans unable to locate any WMD in Iraq after the invasion, I would say that their mission there was successful in preventing Iraq from acquiring a nuclear capability.

I do find it somewhat amusing that people like you take the time to complain about who the Nobel Peace Prize is given to.
I don't really care, it stopped being worth anything a long time ago.

He's been very critical of the war o Iraq, mainly because he felt that the evidence in hand at the time didn't justify an invasion. As head of the IAEA, he was obviously in a position to know.

That was true of dozens of people. Is that all it takes these days to win a Nobel prize?!
