IDEA/DISCUSS Rise of the Ottomans

Most of the non Ottoman, Seljuk or Byzantine Sultanates could be represented by Barbarian cities. I suppose it is quite possible in an alternative history that one of these other Sultanates may have risen in the place of the Ottomans, but for the sake of the game I would either lump them together as the Seljuk Turks or make them barbarians.

I guess barbarians would be better, because Ottomans in 1300 are no match for a unified Anatolia. At this time they are a few horse archers and settlers, and maybe a city of size 1.

.... but they will arrive... earlier or later... (later)

I would still like to make this scenario one day but at the moment I am very busy finishing other projects. Let me know if you do give it a go and I will do what I can to help :)

If you decide to have a go I would recommend the Osprey book 'Constantinople 1453' which is an excellent source.

I went to Istanbul a couple of years ago and took a walk along part of the walls which are still very much intact and the part I walked alongside, nearest the Golden Horn, was being rebuilt/maintained. Thought that was good as it was not a very touristy area and the walls were built by the Greeks to keep the Turks out, now it is they who maintain it!
