Ijnavy's Scenarios on GEM

The Papal states are in. I don't understand why 200 BC does not work. I'll try to change something to make it work correctly.

Could it perhaps be related to different GEM versions? What version is it intended to be played on? (There are no instructions. If you upload it on the DL Database instead of just posting a zipfile on the thread you can add more info plus it's easy to find.)

I think that I figured out the problem, try this.

You're right, for some reason my computer will not work right. Will try to upload now.
EDIT: There seems to be a problem with my laptop. Sorry for the inconvenience, will upload correctly on my computer soon.

I thought I didn't see much difference between both zipfiles... Installing it in the BTS\Mods folder, it loaded fine. I got some comments though, besides the religions issue.

On city names:

- Palermo = Panormus (Syracuse would be better, it was more important)
- Marseille = Massilia
- Porto = Portus Cale
- Cadiz = Gades
- Saguntum should be Carthago Nova (more important city)
- Lixus should be on the coast
- Tripoli = Leptis
- Parisii, Glasgow should be Eboracum, Picti/Scoti
- Gortyne = Gortyn
- Oxyrhynchus = Memphis (more important)
- Aksum (wrong place) = Meroë
- Arshamashat, Yervandashat = Edessa, Artaxata
- Hecatomply = Hecatompylos
- Herat = Alexandria in Aria
- Alexandria in Arachosia (wrong place) = Bactra
- Demetria... = Barbaricon (more important city)
- Kyoto (didn't exist yet) = Nara
- Chavin de Huantar (Spanish name) = Chavin
- Cuzco (didn't exist yet) = Nazca (on the coast)/Tiwanaku (2/3 tiles SE).

On gameplay:
- I tried Rome and quickly despatched Hannibal's army in the Battle at Mediolanum by quickly moving forces from Rome there (Hannibal seems to be missing his Numidian cavalry and both the Roman and Hannibal's army seem a bit too small; there should be a legionary force off the Spanish coast and another in Northern Italy); after that I traded Iron Working from Scythia, since I didn't appear to have it yet (?), recovered the force in Mediolanum, then took two steps towards Massilia before the CTD happened...:(
- also maybe Stonehenge should be preplaced in Brittannia?

I just changed many city names. Really hope that the CTD will not happen.

I forgot about Macedoia - thx! But how about that religions fix? (I gave you a clue in post #166.) That'd be a start.;)

A clue?
You would have to give me more specifics about how, where, what to insert, etc, considering I am not familiar with editing the wbs.
The only time I did it, I screwed up the loading up of the game...therefore I'm not keen to repeat myself...unless I really know ups and down of what I'm supposed to do!

I don't think that changing the WBS will change the religion names. I'll try to find another variable to change to make the CTD to not happen.

Didn't know you had no clue.:mischief:

In the WBS file for each civ there's an entry "State Religion=" where you can fill in the State Religion you want in CAPITALS. First ofcourse such a religion must be present to take effect; this can be edited simply in the Worldbuilder per city. However, if it's the buttons that are mixed up, it's another matter. (But I don't think that would cause a CTD after a fixed number of turns; the scenario might simply not load then.) The problem is the CTDs seem to occur without any error message, which isn't helping either...

It would help if you have previous versions to check in which version exactly the error occurs.

I finally fixed it!!! Will upload to thread and download database tomorrow!

Ok, thanks.
Now it seems quite linear.

Three questions though:

1) I'm editing the State Religion main entry in the wbs and then all the additional city entries, however is there a real option to insert Orthodox as religion for Kiev Rus, Byzantines etc?
Or I just have to stick to CHRISTIANITY?
In other words I wonder if the wbs will recognize a different entry (Orthodox) in place of the standard ones (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc).

2) Secondly, how do I proceed if I want to remove a civ - lets say the Khara Khanids - and add the Papal State (just in the city of Rome)?

3) Last but not least, considering I play on an already modified mods (I edited the basic one of JNavy to insert Edessa in Franks hands, and also the cities of Crete and Rhodes to give Byzantines a few isles) is there a way to modify the religion there, on this slightly different scenario?
The issue is that the WBS is still the standard one before my modifications (without Edessa, Crete etc).

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance to teach me the ropes!

Just inserting ORTHODOX as the State Religion may get unorthodox results. (Like deleting that civ from the Choose Civ screen). Any change you insert must be recognizable; in this case you'd first have to add ORTHODOX as a religion or, more practical, use a mod(comp) that does that. (Though not all scenarios are compatible with all mods.) This would be a bit more tricky: since GEM already is a mod you'd have to merge the Orthox mod with GEM.

2) Secondly, how do I proceed if I want to remove a civ - lets say the Khara Khanids - and add the Papal State (just in the city of Rome)?

That's easy: in principle you can edit any civ in the WBS file by replacing, say the Kara Khanids, by the Papal States. You can then also define the Papal States as being any standard (i.e. recognizable, see above) civ, for instance Rome.

Editing a scenario (WBS file) isn't a modification - which changes, or modifies, the game rules (GEM for instance, makes use of a Giant Earth Map that wasn't in Civ4; other mods may add units that weren't in Civ4). Even after you make changes to the WBS file, it's still within the modified rules of GEM (so, yes, it's a standard file since the mod is recognized). But I answered this one already in the 1st reply: you'd have to merge GEM with a mod that adds Orthox as a religion.

DLed it from the Database.;)

3 comments:
- once you upload your file to the DL Database, there's no need to include the zipfile on your thread (you can just post a link to the DL Page)
- I think you should add a link to thread on the DL Page plus one in post #1 to the DL Page; you can keep a list of new scenarios/updates (with links!) in post #1 (that way people will always know where to look)
- you might want to add some screenshots to the DL Page (and add a comment you'll fix the religions issue in an update).

Keep it up!

EDIT: You should also post a summary on the "New/Updated Files" thread (on the Civ4 - Forums page).;)

Thanks a lot for the info.
It really helped a lot.
Considering it didnt seem too difficult I ended up working on my own scenario/mod (GEM, 1205 AD. Right after the 4th crusade and the fall of Costantinople).
Completely impromptu...but is coming up nicely.
I easily changed the religions and now 'm just trying to figure out how to import Leader Heads (Arpad, Vlad Dracul etc) to replace existing ones that dont fit.

Jeelen, show me the light, if you know how to import new ones into the "pool" of available leader heads.

Anyway, back on track, regarding 200 BC....I tried to play but it still CTD around 120 BC!
Jnavy: if there is anything that I can do to single out the reason for the crash, let me know.
I'm slowly becoming more proficient with coding and editing...

EDIT: the game runs fine for you on your pc or are you experiencing the same crash at the same time?

You're way ahead of me! For importing LHs there's a "How to..." thread in the Tutorials section. Perhaps it's time to start a thread on your own?;)

@ijnavy: Can't comment on the CTD, as I've been busy updating The Crusades!
