Imperial Trash.

I think if shyuhe can finish in the next 40-50 turns, we might as well all play to the end.

@remconius
I've checked the saves and I must add that the games diverged a lot, mainly because of the diplo situation. From Shyuhe's rampaging campaing on the Northern island to the more peaceful Oz and TriviAl games ( space I presume? A advice: you're running low in the army departement.... You're calling a invasion over you sooner or later ( of course that it will be received by superior firepower :p ) ) , passing by 50_$ diplo mess ( If I were you I would jump into one of those wars, even if just for fun ;) ). But besides that, the games are very balanced ( our team looks to be of very homogeneous Civ skills ). As usual, a hard vote.....

Definitely space for me. :)

Yar - fixing the army is being done now - AIs have just got astronomy, so feel I need at least 3 modern units per city - should be doable pretty quickly - units produce fast.

Space for me as well... No way I could tackle my Zara in battlefield :(

Think I could do it militarily - could be up tanks and infantry to their rifles in no time. Bombers long before they have fighters. However the economy won't take it. IMO colony costs are too crippling to occupy much of the landmass and I don't have the stomach/patience to conquest that lot. :)

Guess creating a colony over there and feeding it more cities might work - not tried that before...

Hmmm - could be amusing, thinking about it.

And this weeks winner is:

Shyuhe

If anyone wants to do some warmongering, Shyuhe's game is available to continue. I doubt anyone will change though....

^^TriviAl, if you want ideas for that, check the LHCs ... In the Portuguese one, InvisibleStalke made exactly what you are proposing now....

Oooh - those look like fun games - never checked them out before to my embarassment. :)

Hmmm - think it could be more fun than spaceshipping - if a little time consuming.

Might try the hit em hard approach and see where it gets me...

Will see how my project goes this weekend. Man am I starting to hate DIY with a passion. Thought it was all finished as well... discovering it's never finished. :)

Thanks for the votes! Too bad nobody's going to pick it up

I don't think I can finish the game in 40 turns - that's a little tight. I imagine it'll take more in the vicinity of 60-70 turns. I'll see how fast I can turn it out though. Bombers here I come! Good luck on space for those finishing that way :)

Played out my game. It definitely took more than 40 turns  I think it was more in the vicinity of 81-82 turns.

Spoiler :

I basically did what I outlined. I finished off Gilgamesh first, then I declared war on Churchill and took him out as well. He did tech to grenadiers before I finished him off but I was taking my time on the last few cities. I was concentrating on building factories+coal plants in many of my cities and I was only sending up new draft recruits from the ex-Sumerian lands to the warfront.

After finishing off the two civs, I got the ironworks up and running and also finished off the red cross and west point. I then built a massive invasion fleet of destroyers + carriers + battleships and transports and sent it off to Zara. I did a coastal invasion with marines and soon after I started the war, I had access to mech infantry. At that point, it was just a matter of time as Zara couldn't take back any of my cities since I had mech infantry and very shortly thereafter, modern armor. I slowly whittled away at his cities by sending over jet fighters and stealth bombers and sent two wings - one from the north (where I settled a new city and rushed an airport) and from the eastern coast of his territory. I finally reduced him to 2 cities, at which point he capitulated and I took him down to 1 city. Poor guy.

I also capitulated Brennus on the same turn. I had sent 4 mech infantry to his territory earlier to do some damage and apparently they took out enough of his troops that he was willing to capitulate as well once he was a free state. I then turned my eyes towards the south. Saladin and HRE had a DP but oh well. I declared on Saladin and sent my SOD into Saladin's territory. I think he sent upwards of 40-50 obsolete units against it but as far as I could tell, I lost maybe 2-3 units  I cruised through Saladin's territory and was starting to encroach on HRE's terriitory as well. Saladin wouldn't capitulate because he was afraid of my enemy - HRE. And HRE wouldn't talk to me because I wasn't taking his cities. I was very close to triggering a conquest win but unfortunately, my ex-Ethiopian cities all came out of revolt first and pushed me over the land limit.

All in all, a pretty fun game. We should do this format with a non-isolated start. I think we'll get much more interesting results and people may be more willing to adopt other people's saves (without dying from a barb incursion).

And the save before the final turn:

Spoiler :

Well as I review my game, I discover that Zara has enough on his hands. He is Pleased but just in case I divert research to Rifling so I can upgrade some troops to infantry.

Never had this event before. Makes up for the 5 slave revolts I had :p

Zara is after Gilgamesh.

I finally get my shrine.

Also get Statue of Liberty.

And the free scientist from Physics.

And Oxford Uni.

I finally get Zara to Friendly and can get some trades out of him (Steel, Railroad, Combustion).

Tech wise, I headed straight for Superconductors, then Industrialism, then Rocketry.

I eventually switch to Environmentalism as no-one was going Free Trade at all (use a GA to swap). My health problems disappear. Handy!

Apollo only takes 7 turns with my 432 hammers.

And we sail into space without any worries in 1922.

Not the best date but the backwards AI meant I had to research more myself than usual. No one else even had Apollo built at the end of the game.

Anyway a fun game. Thanks pigswill and remconius :goodjob:

Nice wins guys,
Spoiler :
I'm slogging through the alpha continent now. Just declared on Zara pre 1900AD I don't know what he's been doing the last 80 odd turns, he took about 15 turns for assembly line and has only upgraded about 10 units from what I can see, his counter attack consisted of cannons and Oromo warriors :crazyeye: . He still doesn't have rocketry yet thank god so I'm going to try a tactic I very rarely get to use with gunships and Paratroopers.
Can't see me finishing the game before Shyuhe or Ozbenno though, I think I spread my corps around to the Gilgamesh/Churchill continent and I'm paying a lot in corporation costs even with the FP in London, I'm breaking even at 50% with only 1200 beakers

My domination attempt slowed down a lot towards the end. Zara took avery long time to vassalize. I guess if I had just vassalized him, then liberated his cities, I may have triggered domination another 10 turns earlier. But at that point, I was trying for the conquest win  I was trying to vassalize Saladin and HRE on the same turn.

As most games are coming to a close, I started thinking about the sequal. ;)

Until Pigswill returns from his Civ-batical, I dont mind starting and running a new game in the same variant with a different settings.

I would like to give you guys the first chance to join. Who's interested?

I'd be up for anything but a cultural attempt. I hate going for culture because it feels like civ solitaire.

On a side note, I'm still impressed by Giaur's conquest run. He beat me by a good 20 turns
