Imperialism II PBEM

Britain is the strongest nation, IMO we need a player for it as standalone.

Any volunteers out there in CFC land?

I could play Britain and France, though I tend to agree with Voltar that Britain should really be played stand alone.

I'm a little wary about trying to keep this game going. Having 5-6 players around to play consistently seems like it is going to be a tall order, and the scenario is a long one. I realize that life and technical issues happen, but it is a lot of opportunity for the game to stall and risk dying, so I would like a mechanism to keep it moving.

Here is my proposal:

A player can skip his turn in exchange for a payment. If someone doesn't show up to play in, say, 3 days, then the next person in line can decide that they've forfeited their turn and move on with the game.

I suggest a payment of 3000 gold and 3000 science. This is a large enough payment that an active player might strategically choose to use a turn pass from time to time (so the "punishment" for being absent isn't that large), but not so large that it overshadows all possible trade payments. If forfeiting a turn would still allow units with go-to orders to proceed (the next player would have to spacebar through everything instead of ctrl+n after city production) then there might be a strategy of giving orders every 2 or 3 turns and collecting payments on off turns. This could speed up the game through the build up phase and make things more interesting.

I'm open to other ideas, or modifications of this idea, but I want some assurance that the in game time will proceed more quickly than real life.

I am terribly sorry!

Nothing at all had happened for so long, and I just let my studies swallow me whole!

My prior experience with MP games somehow led me to think this one might be more than just comatose. I will play tomorrow, unless you really want to replace me!

No, please play! I'm sure @voltar will agree!

I won't finish tonight. Perhaps halfway through ship movements.

I know there's only about a hundred of them! But I've had too much wine to concentrate.

Heya, glad you are back, Northerner. Play on!!

Russian Empire November 1870

Gambroon captured with Russian troops arriving just ahead of Indian troops of the British Raj

I've been a bit busy recently, skiing in Italy followed by a hard week at work and now a dose of the flu. Glad this game is up and running again. It's been a while so I hope I didn't miss anything in my turn (tariffs etc). Thought it was better to get the turn played than go into too much detail.

A flu after a hard week at work immediately following a skiing trip? I have no idea how THAT could have happened. :crazyeye:

Boer Kommandos capture the Kalahari African Native settlement. We request the British, whose South African forces are in the immediate vicinity, to respect the Boer Republics' claim and pacification of these territories and the peripheral regions.

USA troops occupy Port-au-Prince, bringing Democracy and freedom to to the peoples of Hispaniola. A nearby Independent Steam Warship was sunk at the cost of three lighter US naval ships. The government is greatly concerned about the shambles the American navy now finds itself in after several Caribbean skirmishes.

The Expeditionary Force in southern Persia is cut off and cannot return to India yet.

Little news.
I'm addressed. Are you addressing the same unit I am?

Hm, I must confess I do not understand what you mean by addressed.
The cavalry in South Africa immediately adjacent to the city of Kalahari, which I captured on my last turn. I was asking, in a long-winded, IC way, for a withdrawl from the city periphery.

French Cavalry defeats native horse troops outside Oran.

Reminder:
France offers free trade with all French ports to any nation that reciprocates with a similar policy. Paris counts as a port provided that the trade unit lands on the river at (1,41) and is delivered the very next turn. Permission to travel in the interior of French territory should be sought in advance. The French reserve the right to temporarily close a port to ensure the production of a trade unit.

Also, all French ports in Europe have a Grand Railway Station, which I believe gives a delivery bonus if the source city also has one.

Due to the recent hiatus, can everyone please re-state their trade policy?

American Policy remains unchanged. We agree to reciprocal free trade and yeah don't block our railroads, notify in advance if you need a tile.

So glad to see this game moving again, and rather quickly at that.
