incremental patch discussion

hey,

ok first,
since youll be unavailble, its better if you get 1.6 today, so i can patch it like you said in a day or two.

second,
true, not all things are relevant to dw, im gonna leave all the unused parts in dune - like revolution .
the sdk is build on revdcm, and includes dales mods and bug, so, as most of the mods today, i use it as a platform for dw. bug mod is great, and most of all jdog5000 and glider have some unique stuff that relates to the ai.
later after i will merge this, you can ajust some stuff as usual.

so dont worry, it will be ok dude,

im waiting on 1.6 then.

Hi Keldath, welcome back, I forgot to respond to your PM.

I'm not all that convinced we should keep on merging in RevDCM changes either.

We have a few AI issues in the mod (like most mods) and merging in outside changes just means we are trying to hit a moving target. Is there a convincing reason to update? There's stuff in that list like Global Warming mod which makes no sense for us.

It is surely more worthwhile to understand and fix the SDK we have rather than just adding in extra stuff, a lot of which might be redundant.

hey Deliverator,

that fine david gave me some affectin i needed :)

yeah i know what you mean on the other hand, why do we need all of that stuff right?

heres why i think we sould stick with revdcm:

- influence driven war
- dale mods - which i personally, and im convinced that others, cant play without.
- better ai attached to dales code - with some variation
- bug mod
- inquisition system is kinda cool for religions
- super spies - most important for mentats and spy like units in dune
- woc module system - it rearranges the whole font system.

second,
its a combo mod, that organizes all of the best stable features there are,
and its development are attached to bug mod and bbai versions with adaptations.
glider and jdog5000, are very careful about adding things in and such.

i know you and david are fearful by this, but, i promiss you, that it is better to build the ontop of it, cause it contains all things i listed on one place with premium quality of coding.

about global warming,
trust me buddy, im gonna make sure that all unneeded options, like this and revolution stuff wont be on nor available, you never know its there/

another thing, the code of the ai - is always improving by jdog5000, koma and david, have added their changes to it, and im making sure that im inserting those codes inside perfectly, so every development we have i get it in.

trust me on this one, i promise that using revdcm is a very good thing for game experience.

wow, that was along speech huh?

It's hard to tell if general improvements in BBAI will be a net gain or a net loss. For example, there are a lot of references to improvements in picking up stranded units, which sounds like a benefit. On the other hand, we have some small evidence that the only way Fremen can expand at all today is by conquering barbarian cities, so if distant cities are more likely to be razed, they may be hurt worse.

It's definitely hard to merge parts of one mod without other parts; separating them out requires more work than just merging everything. But personally I'd vote for integrating all of the latest BBAI and not RevDCM.

hummm....

well, i know that theres a down size,
but i really think that the ups are more then the downs,

im sure that more good will come out of using the revdcm code.

you have nothing to worry about - the revolution code inside the sdk - doesn't hut the game, if its unused, so basically im not adding stuff, except the bbai, the rest of the code - is just fixes,
after going through the code - most of the changes are in the bbai.
and if i remove the use of global warming its just the same.

moreover, it adds bug 4, that is a very excellent toll, that by far do not harm the gameplay at all.

dont worry dudes, you wouldnd feel the different, and we wil enjoy a btter ai with some new bug stuff, thats all.

edit:
so david, are you gonna upload 1.6? or you rather wait?

Another question - current protective trait gives CG and Drill to suspensor units. Bc suspensor units are weaker than most of units of same era, and never used as CG, this trait seems to be very weak. Any way to improve it? To add just CG to guardsman units? (w/o drill).

I think we will probably need a general rebalancing/tweaking of leader traits (tying them better to unit classes and buildings and such). And maybe add some new ones?

sure! sounds good
Also we can start brainstorm
@Ahriman, i may be not easy to understand, but i like abstract brainstorming. Being being of arts, the importance of crazy-dune-like brainstorm have been set deep into my mind. :P
But i am not man of numbers/names, more of concepts.

So lets start crazy brainstorm:
Trait for Voice ability : All BG/Paul/Alia/Leto II?

Well, 1.6 is out. See the links in all the usual places. I guess 1.6.1 will probably be keldath's port to RevDCM 2.6 and BBAI. I never did get to Mentat AI, so that is up first, along with Ecaz UU/UB/UA. I also want to try an experiment on all terrain settlers using vanilla, to prove whether normal AI can handle the Fremen settlers or not.

Attached is the spreadsheet of all feedback items which aren't addressed yet. Many of them have comments about why; some of them I don't agree with, some we haven't designed yet, some I just don't know how to do. If you have given a feedback which is not in the 1.6 release note and not in the sheet, please let me know.

Trait for Voice ability : All BG/Paul/Alia/Leto II?

I know this thread has gone of topic recently, but the purpose of this thread is discuss what modders are working on and co-ordinate patch releases. There are lots of other threads for discussing new ideas and brainstorming. :)

I'm getting an installer integrity check when trying to run the 1.6 installer. Anyone else getting this?

I've noticed that corrupting can occur when uploading big files to mediafire. I've had this a couple of times. I now download straight-away after uploading to check this hasn't happened.

Nope, installer definitely looks corrupted.

A nice surprise to wake up to. I cannot even download from mediafire this morning, it just says "processing download request" and then reloads the same page. I am uploading to my own website. In the past, multiple people have complained they cannot download from my site, so this does not appear to be much improvement. If I can get to mediafire, I will try re-uploading.

Can't test myself until later as I'm at work.

Perhaps we can revert to the old pattern of using your site as the main link and mediafire as the mirror. I have never had a problem downloading from your site, so I'm happy to take care of the uploading to mediafire for the few who need a mirror.

I will put up 1.6.1 as an emergency patch with two files, in a couple of hours. So I guess yours will be 1.6.2.

Did you merge the source code from 1.6 with your revdcm stuff?
