Why? One of my favorite Firaxis units, the Archer, is all in civ-color and it looks fine.. And since this is just cloth, why not make it of one colour...

all civ color will look good for most colors...just dont make india yellow, or pink...

I think this fella would look just fine with all-civ color.
At least, he would be a nice companion piece for Rob's Indian Guard, which also utilizes a civ-specific tunic.

Whole civ-color drapery thingy 
It looks a little Hellenic, but then with the whole Dionysian connection to India I guess it's OK.
Thread thingy: why not just adjust the drape of that necklace thingy - it shows OK at civ-scale and I'm not sure why everybody is putting it on these Indian units anyway.

I truly appreciate all the effort everyone is putting in on these units.
If possible, could you guys make the "over the shoulder" part of the toga-thingy invisible - it would really help the units look more Indian.
& for anyone willing to take a crack at the "sacred thread" - I've seen images (albeit of deities) where it is in beads, or more of a strap, rather than a thread. And it could easily be a civ-color part of the unit.

I gave the game away about that some time ago...
That wouldn't work - utah's necklace will only fit over the chest, because that's where it's articulated to move with the body (if you follow me). I might be able to work something out that's more ropelike. I see from the Wikipedia link that the thread simply loops over the left shoulder and under the right one. Does that mean it would be worn relatively tight, or would it flop about as the soldier moves? As I'm sure you can guess, the former would be a lot easier...

ok, not to be arguementative or anything...but...
I have spent 2 days digging through pics, and info in order to help with this sacred thread problem...with that said, I dont think these units should even HAVE the thread, and if they do, it will be invisible at civ scale...
The "Thread" is no thicker than the thumb, made of cord, and as long as a full grown man is tall...it is wrapped 3 times around the shoulder/waist (Different depending on where you are in your path to Brahma) and knotted once...
According to most of the sources I read, it is a rite of passage into manhood, tho is not required culturally. Most (80%) of the pics of the sacred thread that you will find are 1 of 2 things...Children going through the ritual and receiving their Threads...or married couples (the only time another knot is allowed to be tied in the thread is after marriage)...

@ Plotinus - conforming to the body without floppiness is fine. Spacer One is correct as to the length. Say 6 feet and a few inches for a stout warrior - then looped 3 times - would make it fairly snug.
@ Spacer One - you're conflating some current practices with those of the Vedic-Classical periods. I'm not going to get into a long discursive argument that will just turn into a pedantic threadjack, but - the two rightmost images I posted above (#132 in this thread) both show a "thread" thicker than a thumb, that would be quite cumbersome for a warrior if wrapped around the wrist. Believe me or not as you will, but I already have access to or can find many more images suggesting that the "thread" can, for game purposes, be reasonably be made just as visible at civ-scale as the necklace worn, for example, by the Tribal Fanatic unit. As to modern practices, the Brahmin-caste (and proud of it) computer scientist I worked with at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona wore his over the shoulder.
I'm simply trying to ask people to make some of the Indian units clearly Kshatriya - the professional warrior caste. They, like the Brahmins, wear the thread as one of the "twice-born" castes. Statuary and other images I have studied show the "thread" plainly displayed, not worn under the clothing as in modern times. If you really don't think Kshatriya units should wear the thread please state your reasoning. And I could really use your research & support as well in demanding that all Indian units wear a proper dhoti rather than a toga.
